Today we’d like to introduce you to Ajani Colvin.
Hi Ajani, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my musical journey around 2014, emerging as an independent producer starting crafting beats, blending hip-hop, trap, and experimental sounds, with a DIY approach that allowed me creative freedom. In 2018, I was gifted my own home studio setup and started recording as an artist under SaturnTyo. This allowed me to branch out from producing beats to recording my own music which was a significant step in my creative evolution.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning not so much but recently developing vision loss introduced new hurdles. Music production software, often visually oriented with complex interfaces, can be difficult to navigate nowadays.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m an independent musician and producer, primarily creating in the hip-hop, trap, and experimental lo-fi spaces, with a heavy nod to anime-inspired and cosmic aesthetics that give my work a playful, otherworldly vibe. These days, I handle everything from production to vocals, visuals, and performance, often collaborating with multiple people like myself. What I’m most proud of is my debut project “Infinity” (2024), which was a full-circle moment after years of grinding—channeling life’s ups and downs, including recent vision loss, into something cohesive and celebratory. It’s not just music; it’s a testament to pushing through as an indie artist without major backing. Phaenon (2024) follows that spirit, proving I can adapt and keep creating. What sets me apart is the authentic fusion of my Atlanta roots with cosmic, anime-edged creativity—raw emotion poured into beats that feel both street-level and interstellar. In a saturated scene, I stand out by staying true to the hustle: self-produced, visually bold, and resilient, turning personal struggles like vision challenges into fuel for innovation rather than roadblocks. It’s not about chasing trends; it’s about building a world through sound that’s uniquely mine. Ive also started to live stream my creative process.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
As an artist, you likely vibe with Atlanta’s thriving underground music scene and cultural energy. What I don’t like is how people don’t like to come together and have fun and be more joyful with each other.
