Today we’d like to introduce you to Anaia Lachelle.
Hi Anaia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I found out I could sing at 4 years old, in the small city of Saginaw, Michigan. My mom had me singing old R&B with her one day, and she noticed I loved music when I would scream and cry when she turned a good song off. I was 4 and 5 when she put in my first talent shows. I then fell in love with dancing and took a break from singing. On a good day I wanted to be a full-on entertainer; singing, acting, and dancing. While some days, I wanted to be a choreographer or a fashion designer. I’ve always known I was meant to be more. At 16, now living in Kalamazoo, I began singing on choruses for rappers like and people referred to me as the “Hook Princess”. By 21, I dropped my first project, “A Girl’s Perspective”, and at 23, I’ve released my sophomore project, “Lay It Out”. My style is definitely raw lyricism, clever wordplay, with a lot of R&B influence. Growing up, I practically worshipped artists like Aaliyah, Sade, and Janet Jackson. My lyrical influence comes from rap influences as well, like 2pac, Snoop, etc. The biggest takeaway that I’d want supporters to take from my music is a sense of my personality; how authentic and assertive I am in my music and find relatability in it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. It STILL isn’t. The first thing I thought of is “content creating”. Ugh, it makes my head hurt just thinking about it. I have a hate/love relationship with this newfound way of gaining attention. That’s been my biggest hurdle. I feel like I’m forcing myself in people’s faces and I don’t even have a giant bowl of confidence like that, lol.
A common struggle for me has always been confidence in my musical ability. I can humbly say that I feel like I have the image, the personality, but the voice and lyrics I’m not always confident about. I lack a lot of training, but I hope to learn more skills that can get me to that security in my gifts.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer, songwriter, elementary teacher, dancer, and model.
I’m most proud of the impact I’ve made on children working in the schools, as well as being able to simultaneously pursue my own dreams.
What sets me apart is that I take a lot of pride in my work and how much I love people. Before music, before teaching, I’ve always loved serving people. All of my talents could go away, but my love for people doesn’t change.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
A foundation in God
A willingness to understand and to learn
Self-accountability and assertiveness because people will try to walk over you.
