Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre’ Lamar.
Hi Andre’, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, my Mom would rent movies for me to watch to keep me in the house and out of the streets. My Mother figured this would keep me occupied and out of trouble. This led me to watch all kinds of movies as a kid; however, I never saw myself as an Actor. I actually wanted to become a Professional Basketball Player or be a member of a singing group. I always appreciated the camaraderie of having brothers since I grew up with only sisters. However, after some attempts in those fields, I met a producer during my music phase who suggested that I attend an acting class to help with my stage presence. After that first class, things started to come full circle for me.
As a child, I was an introvert and very apprehensive. I wasn’t aware of everything that I was capable of accomplishing. Even though I was shy, I was always good at problem-solving and very resilient. I believed I could do anything with practice and hard work. It wasn’t until I reached high school that I started to break out of my shell. Besides being a class clown, I was a top athlete and quite popular. As I began to grow and mature into adulthood, I soon discovered my life purpose through GOD. Then life became such a better adventure to enjoy.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a challenging road for me. As I began to grow and mature, I started to learn more about myself and who I was destined to be. Through out my journey, I started to deny all the things my inner self was telling me because I thought I knew what I wanted for myself versus what I was destined to do. This included listening to others as well. I faced a lot of obstacles in life due to my rebellious nature. I did not follow my gut nor all of the signs around me when it came to becoming an actor. In hindsight, everything I was encountering was preparing me to share my story through acting.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My current focus is growing my brand. I am a professional Actor and co-owner of Right Vibes, an apparel brand. My goal is to inspire people by portraying characters that the audience can relate to. Someone who depicts their everyday lives. By playing these different roles, I’m showing them that there is always a choice to be a better version of yourself and that you have to want to be better. This same concept applies to my clothing line. Our mission is to empower individuals through the expression of a unique collection of apparel that promotes unity, inspires compassion, and embraces optimism by living your passion. What I am most proud of is finding out that my passion, gift, and life journey can inspire others to live their truth.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For anyone starting out, do your research. After that, just go for it. It will never be perfect and the timing might not be right in your mind, but it might just be right on time through your purpose. I wish I would have known that nobody has all the answers. A lot of times, people give you advice based off of their fears and inadequacies. So, trial and error is how you learn and you only fail if you give up.
