Check Out Andre Melgacio’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Melgacio.

Hi Andre, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with acting in 2013, in Brazil, where I studied and worked professionally for several years. I learned so much during that time, from the discipline of theater to the fast-paced world of television. I had opportunities to work in short films, theater plays, commercials, and even a soap opera. Moving to Atlanta, in 2022, was a big step, but I was determined to continue pursuing my passion. It’s been a rewarding experience to navigate a new industry and language. I’ve been fortunate to work on a variety of projects, from featured films to web series, and currently I am a series regular in the show called ‘The Dirty A.’ I’m passionate about storytelling, and I’m always eager to learn and grow as an actor.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Working in a language that’s not my native one has certainly presented unique challenges, but I see it as a fantastic opportunity for growth and artistic expansion. After all, the core of being an actor is continuous learning, whether it’s for a character, a project, or in this case, a new linguistic landscape. Therefore, I’ve dedicated myself to studying the American accent, not just to improve my pronunciation, but to truly grasp the natural speech flow and nuances. However, it’s not simply about delivering lines; it’s about deeply understanding the cultural context and the emotional weight those words carry. The words themselves are merely vehicles, surfing on the underlying emotional current. And I’m committed to ensuring that emotional authenticity shines through, regardless of the language.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What truly drives me is the versatility of acting. I thrive on exploring diverse characters across different formats. I genuinely love the challenge of immersing myself in different worlds and characters. For me, acting is about capturing the essence of a person, understanding their motivations, and sharing their story with authenticity. I also recognize that my distinct look, combined with my multilingual background, offers a unique perspective. I’m excited to bring that diversity to the projects I work on, especially in the US market.
I’m really passionate about those characters with depth, the ones that aren’t just one-dimensional. The ones where you can explore their inner conflicts and show the complexities of being human. I have a particular interest in villains. Especially when they force us to confront uncomfortable questions about morality and the choices we make. They can be a powerful tool for driving the narrative forward, pushing characters and audiences to consider different perspectives. What’s especially intriguing is the potential for unexpected shifts, where a seemingly virtuous character reveals a darker nature, or conversely, you discover that the villain was actually misundertood. But really, any character that shows their struggles, their mistakes, and their humanity, is what I’m drawn to. That’s where the real storytelling happens.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Dedication is key! Like I previously mentioned, acting is an ongoing education; it’s about translating a story into an embodied experience. That requires constant observation, learning how people navigate life, and rigorous skill development. As Sanford Meisner famously said, ‘Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances.’ I’m dedicated to understanding how to access that genuine behavior of each character within their story, and to showing it to the audience. I’m committed to mastering the techniques, learning from experienced professionals, and consistent practice. It’s a challenging but incredibly rewarding process. I advocate for consistent practice, continuous learning, and constant improvement. This philosophy applies to any dream one pursues. Dedication is essential for transforming aspirations into reality. Most importantly, I believe in enjoying the process. Celebrating every accomplishment, no matter the size, and savoring each step of the journey is equally important. It keeps the passion alive.
