Check out Anna Norman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Norman.

Anna, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have always had a passion for telling stories—whether that be through writing, photography, or artwork—but it wasn’t until I found film that I discovered a way I could truly tell stories the way that I always wanted to. Verbally and visually. Combing moving images and sound to create a more complete story that I always struggled to tell on paper alone.

I have had a proclivity for digital media since I was in middle school, making short animations using Microsoft Paint and Windows Movie Maker. Luckily my skills became more sophisticated, however, as I yearned to learn more equipment and storytelling tools. I went on to study communication and film, video, and digital imaging in college and graduate school and gained a love for being in the editing room or behind a camera.

It was when a friend asked me to film her wedding that I truly found my passion though. I instantly fell in love with capturing the love shared between others, which led me to start my business, Anna Norman Videography. I have been filming weddings ever since, and I am continually amazed and honored by the trust that my clients put in me to tell the story of one of the most important days of their lives.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I make wedding films, but more importantly, I capture moments and memories that brides, grooms, family, and friends will look back on for the rest of their lives.

Every couple has such a different story to be told, and I strive to showcase their unique personalities in each wedding film I make. So much love, excitement, emotion, and careful planning goes into one day, and it can all go by so quickly. By capturing all of those things on film, you are able to freeze time and encapsulate those memories in a way that allows you to relive every important moment.

Making wedding films is so special to me not because I get to make pretty images, but because those memories are so special to each couple and their loved ones. I am thankful for each day that every past and future client has entrusted me to record and to be able to share such important moments with the world.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
When I first started my business, I had terrible equipment, a half-broken camera, and a ten-year-old laptop that barely worked, but my clients trusted me nonetheless because of the care that I put into telling their stories. As more and more couples asked me to capture their weddings, I was slowly able to update my film equipment, computer, and editing software, but those things were not nearly as important as my growth in my storytelling.

If you want to be a filmmaker, it doesn’t matter what you’re shooting on. Just get out there and use your passion to share others’ passions with the world. The rest will follow.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
