Check Out Azita Ayagh’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Azita Ayagh.

Azita Ayagh

Hi Azita, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my career as a video editor in Atlanta after graduating from Georgia State University in 1998. I began working as an assistant editor for a small post house where we primarily focused on commercials for agencies such as BBDO and J. Walter Thompson. I then moved to NYC where I continued my career at Viacom and got into editing longer format television shows. I worked at MTV and VH1 in the early days of shows such as Diary, Made, True Life and I love the 90s. I then moved back to Atlanta for some time before heading to Los Angeles. My career has been exciting and successful in all of these cities. I primarily edit reality television, but have also worked in scripted content for Tyler Perry, the CW network and more!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth road for me in my editing career. Most of the challenges come from being a freelancer and finding constant work. However, I have been pretty lucky overall and most of my work comes from word of mouth. But there have been times when it was slower or more difficult.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been a video editor for over two decades. I’ve always loved my career because I love to tell stories visually. I specialize in reality television which typically requires creating an exciting storyline from unscripted footage. I love the challenge this presents. I also love working on anything that is music driven. I am a huge music fan and it is one of my biggest inspirations in life. It plays a big part in my editing career as well as my art career, where I name my paintings after song lyrics that inspire me. I typically do a painting with just one song lyric in mind.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5 – 10 years I imagine AI technology will play a large part in the editing world. Hopefully our jobs will not be taken and AI will just be used as a tool to help expedite the process! But it is hard to say because as we all know, technology is moving quickly. However, I do believe that editing is an intuitive art form that definitely needs a human touch.
