Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad Cranshaw.
Hi Brad, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, I’m Brad, I play guitar and sing in the band Antagonist Theory. I started Antagonist Theory in 2018. The band has gone through numerous line-up changes over the years in search for the right musicians. I never could find a lead singer for our band, so I started learning how to do vocals myself in 2020 during the pandemic. During 2020 I took lessons from Soren Sedit of RMS Vocal Institute based in Denmark. Towards the end of the lockdown periods, the lineup at the time kinda fell apart due to inactivity / lack of interest… I was once again alone in my project with no other musicians. I Played many shows as a one-man band in 2022 and released some Demo Stuff over the years. In late 2022 I met up with drummer Adam Baker and Bass Player Matt Bailey. We have played a few shows already this year and hope to get out there and play more venues in the future. However, right now the focus has been on developing our sound / writing new music for an EP / Album release in 2024. We have a show planned in June, and a 2 song EP / Single release coming out in june.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been tough to find musicians who have time to commit and get serious about a project, and especially hard because the style of metal I am doing is not exactly what everybody else is doing right now, and I haven’t let that stop me, as I like what I like.. They say good things come to those who wait.. So.. I’m feeling very fortunate to have found a couple of very talented guys (Adam and Matt) who share the same mindset, are easy to work with and like what we are doing.. They have also added their own unique styles to the sound I’ve been creating, which has made it better than it’s ever been thus far. I am very excited to see how our sound evolves over the next year or so.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
During the time I started antagonist theory, I’ve also been building a home studio in my basement that we call Red Skull Studios. We are a DIY band, recording/producing on our own. I’ve spent the past several years learning about audio production, mixing and mastering… etc. I have helped several local bands with demo/ep stuff. Video Content… ETC as well as put on a few local DIY shows (mainly our annual Halloween get-together). I definitely plan to keep that going and striving to grow and increase my knowledge as a sound engineer/producer.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Of course, this would be… getting my first guitar in 1988 when I was 13.
