Check Out Brandy Chaffin’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Chaffin.

Hi Brandy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been the type of person who wants to document everything. Photography is such a good escape into an artistic world where you can create things that make you happy. For me, that happiness is creating memories for people to look back on when that may be all that you have left. Anyone who knows me knows that I always have my camera (even if it is my iPhone) ready at any time to capture the moment. I am a picture hoarder and I am not ashamed! I started thinking to myself back in 2020 that I wanted to do something more with my free time and what better way to spend it than taking photos! I have an amazing group of friends and family members who supports me to the ends of the earth and who pushed me to pursue my career! I want to give a special shoutout to my best friend Karlee for always being down to be my model along with some of my other friends.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Photography is far from a smooth road! In this industry, you will face a lot of struggles along the way, and some of those can make or break you! For example, I currently work a full-time job outside of photography and I run into scheduling issues a lot due to clients wanting days when I am working or when I am free then they are not. That sometimes takes a toll on you because you want to keep them as a client, but sometimes you just have to accept it and move on. Photography is also becoming a popular industry and there will always be competition which will sometimes make you doubt yourself or your work! I am blessed with amazing friends, family, and most of all my clients who continue to give me the support and kind words when I need it the most!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Most photographers specialize in certain types of photography whether it is weddings, maternity, or newborn! I am a go with the flow photographer who is down for whatever shoot you want to do! Whether it is to take your wedding dress to a waterfall to shoot random bridal portraits, or if you just want to hire me just for an updated family session I am down for whatever! I am most proud that even after all this time some of my very first clients say the images I took for them are still their most favorite to date.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
The biggest risk that I endure is what I mentioned in a previous section. I also work a full-time job outside of photography, so while I am working that job my availability is not like other photographers who may be full-time and can do a session at any time of the day. While I try to accommodate everyone, sometimes it does not work in my favor and I lose clients which definitely hurts. Although I do lose clients sometimes to my work schedule, it is very rare and I am thankful that for the most part, all of my clients/ potential clients are very flexible and we end up finding a day that works for both of us!
