Check Out Brittany Garcia’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Garcia.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey in music has been one of self discovery. My earliest influence was MJ. I idolized Michael Jackson’s power at the age of 2. I admired how he could literally stand in silence and people FELT his presence. Obviously his music and dance moves were iconic but I wanted the power he possessed. As I grew I fell in love with Aaliyah. So much so that I would pretend to be her while playing dress up in my mom’s clothes, imagining that I was shooting a music video. There are a host of other artist that were influential to me but lastly and not least, Lauryn Hill captivated me with her lyricism, versatility, and her soulful voice. She made me want to write my own songs. I was an outgoing child and only displayed timid behavior when it came to singing; I would dance on command though. I was always known for dancing and have danced in over 50 talent shows growing up. I even battled a 40 year old in a “butterfly” (old school dance) contest when I was 5 years old. Singing was my secret…until my cousin heard me one day in the bathroom singing in the mirror. She was the number one person in my family who encouraged me to sing. She actually forced me to sing in some settings. My confidence wasn’t there though…and honestly I still battle that little girl within me every time I’m called to sing.
Fast forward to college life, I was on twitter and a local rapper was looking for someone to sing a hook and surprisingly I volunteered. I had no experience or idea what I was doing but my soul said go for it. We linked and he introduced me to his investor who we later discovered was a FRAUD! I became discouraged by the smoke & mirrors and decided to quit trying to be a star. Fast forward 4 years later, I was depressed, a college dropout and was desperately trying to find my happiness. I woke up one day and decided out of thin air that I wanted to follow my life long dream. It helped to be dating a professional musician at the time. I was always in studio sessions, backstage at concerts, and even on a gospel album cover that I hadn’t sung a note on. The thought of singing & songwriting professionally was growing on me with being around music so much. I told my boyfriend I wanted to do music and he didn’t support me, so I broke up with him, posted a clip of me singing on Instagram and caught the attention of a popular local artist in Charlotte. He invited me to the studio to write music and when I sung for the producer he liked my voice, but he was more excited about my dancing. He invited me to be apart of a girl group that he was forming called Volume 4. We would be Charlottes first girl group and I accepted the position. We were one of the biggest local acts in Charlotte for 4 years…by the end of it all we had been bicoastal doing media runs,, tv & radio time, visiting labels, singing for professional sporting events, opening for major artist, and we even caught an offer from major label to be signed. There’s so much I could say about my experience of being in a girl group, let alone Volume 4, but the most important thing was it was a BLESSING! It taught me everything that I needed to move forward in my solo journey. It introduced me to the highs & lows of being an artist.
I ended up leaving the group in 2019 and decided that it was time to spread my wings! I made the executive decision to move to Atlanta to pursue my solo career and to develop my songwriting ability. It was the best move that I could’ve made! I didn’t know many people when I came to ATL & I certainly didn’t have a plan. I just jumped at the opportunity that the universe threw my way. (This is where Wild Hxart was born). Luckily I’ve always been introduced to powerful people and they’ve always remembered me enough to keep their eye on me. I have always been hip to the power of knowing who’s who & networking.
Atlanta is filled with sooo much talent man it’s mind blowing. I performed for YFN Lucci and his camp my second day in the city. By the end of my 3rd week in ATL, I had completed my first ever writing camp and was invited back multiple times to collaborate. My second month in ATL I performed at a showcase and was invited back. 7 months in, I recorded 9 solo songs (the most songs I’ve ever done as a solo artist) and even had the legendary Jazze Pha sit in on my studio session and vibe out with me on IG LIVE (so random). And get this, I’m on a Pastor Troy song (ya’ll know Atlanta loves Pastor Troy)! A year and a half the name WILD HXART is popping up in rooms that I’ve never been in and I’m so grateful for the support! Atlanta is that type of city though! They will show you love and support when it comes to music, as long as you carry yourself like a star. Everything that I came to ATL to do, I AM DOING IT; my own way and at my own pace.

One thing that people will tell you about me is that I am a hustler who is dedicated to making my dreams come true. I’ve been down to $0, taking the bus, walking, even hitch hiking to studio sessions and performances. I don’t recommend this to others but it just a testament of my dedication. They say when there’s a will there’s a way and I will always make a way before I make an excuse. I have moments where I fall but I ALWAYS get back up! Hustle+ Heart= Wild Hxart

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s NEVER a smooth road when pursuing your dreams but overcoming the challenges are essential to your success. I’ve faced many challenges along my journey. As a female artist, being taken seriously in this industry is a HUGE challenge. You are sexualized more than you are respected. People will prey on your dreams and try to manipulate you into compromising situations just to see them come true.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter and budding entrepreneur. I’ve been developing my brand Wild Hxart into a 360 brand where I can touch my consumers on different levels. I’m inspired by Rihanna when it comes to branding because she did it flawlessly! I am developing my brand identity through music, apparel, as well as other business ventures. I am known for being a Jill of all trades. I specialize in songwriting. I am most proud of the music I’ve made and my merch I’ve been creating/selling! My hustle sets me apart from others! I am more than an artist, I am a business. I am a brand!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Personally the most important lesson that I have learned is DON’T BE AFRAID TO TAKE UP SPACE in any room that you are in!
