Check Out Bryan Donaldson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Donaldson.

Hi Bryan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off being a dancer since I was kid and had some small success with it. but it all came crashing down around 2008. I’ve always saw myself being a host and hosting events but I grew up having a speech impediment and feared no one will understand me. So I tired hosting my own event in 2007 called “Come wit it” and I was horrible! Lol. So I took a break and got myself together and decided to face my fears again in 2010. I asked Marquese Scott aka Nonstop and Jeremy Kenner aka Jak if I can host their event called Shut up and Dance for free. They agreed and I thought I did terrible but they actually liked me and asked if I’ll host the next event. And pretty much after that I kept getting asked to host different events in the city and stilled did some events for free just to practice.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Again I grew with a speech impediment. So it was difficult for a min because I had to make sure I took my time and make sure people can understand. So before I said anything I would practice what I was going to say before any event and record myself just to make sure I was saying some words correctly and not mumbling.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Host/Emcee. My job is to pretty much to keep the crowd hyped throughout the event. Making sure the event never gets dull. I’m know for being able to adapt to any environment that I’m put in and can read the room while, which is important because it helps know what to say and not say on the mic depending who’s in the crowd and what type event I’m doing. I mainly host dance events and jams but have done different events along the way like birthday parties and open mic night. What sets me apart from others is again my ability to adapt to any crowd. I love to interact with the audience and making any event feel like a party and a kickback.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Simply reaching out to other Host/emcees and connecting with them. See what events they have lined and attend some just to see how they rock a crowd. But always be professional make sure you look your best! Treat every event like you’re auditioning for the next gig because you never know who’s in the audience watching you.
