Check Out Carter Ledford’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carter Ledford.

Hi Carter, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey really started as a music producer when I was around 13 years old. This is when the stage name “Sxream” was created. I grew up in Atlanta and always loved music, but I also had a strong passion for video. Over time, I naturally transitioned from music production into more video-based work. I became obsessed with the art of video and loved every part of the process, from directing shots to editing and color grading. It felt like something that came naturally to me.

I started taking video much more seriously during my second year of college, and that’s when everything really clicked for me. As that passion grew, I began spending all of my free time learning and practicing every aspect of video creation. I’m now in my final semester as I’m writing this, and it’s been incredible to see how much that decision changed my path and my life.

Eventually, I decided to take the next step and shoot my first music video. After that shoot, I was thrilled with the results and immediately wanted to get back on set. I began doing a lot of free music videos with artists I had already worked with on the production side, using those opportunities to build experience and sharpen my skills.

I still remember charging $200 for my first paid music video, and that moment felt unreal. It showed me that I could actually make a living creating art. From there, I started working with more artists around my city (Atlanta), and continued growing my brand into what it is today!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like any creative field, there are always ups and downs. I’ve faced a lot of challenges throughout my time doing video work, but I’ve trained my mindset to see all of those moments as learning experiences, whether they were good or bad.

One of the biggest struggles I’ve noticed, not just for myself but for a lot of directors, DPs, and people in the video field, is being properly compensated for the work we do. A lot of the time, the cameraman is responsible for creating an artist’s entire image and plays a huge role in how that artist is perceived by the world, yet that contribution is often overlooked.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At this point, I’d say I’m most known for my music videos and social media style visual work. Those are two of my biggest strengths. While I really enjoy creating social media visuals, music videos are where my heart truly lies. I love creating emotional, strong, and eye-catching visuals that match the music I’m given. Color and composition have always been the most important elements to me, and I feel like those two things can really make or break a great video.

What I’m most proud of is how much I’ve grown creatively and professionally over time, especially being able to turn something I love into real, meaningful work.

I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to adapt and work efficiently in different situations. I’m also very easy to work with on set. I like to make sure everything stays on schedule and gets done when it needs to, while also creating an environment where everyone feels comfortable and enjoys the process.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family has always been extremely supportive of the path I chose to follow. My parents, in particular, have been there for me every step of the way, helping guide me through both the ups and the downs. Their support, encouragement, and belief in me have played a huge role in where I am today, and I honestly don’t think I’d be here without them.

My friends have also always supported and encouraged me throughout my journey. Whether that be giving me feedback or even tagging along to help on set.
