Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Gaub.
Hi Cassie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Coaching has always been something I’ve loved doing, even before I knew what it was called or that it could be a career. I started out coaching friends and then friends of friends and things kind of grew from there. While it started out as an informal thing, I officially created my coaching business in 2017.
In the beginning, I was working more as a general coach but as time went on, I realized that my true passion, and what really lit me up, was the work I was doing with service-based providers – especially mental health therapists and other “helpers” and healers.
As someone who spent 15 years working in corporate mental health, it all just clicked and there was this fire that was lit inside me– I realized my passion and purpose in this world really is being the cheerleader, supporter and sometimes tough love for those who help others. It’s a bit cliché but with coaching, and coaching service-based providers in particular, I felt like I found my calling/purpose.
Combining my experience working in mental health with my love of helping and supporting others, I have pivoted my coaching practice to specifically focus on private practice therapists and other healing professionals.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish I could say that it has, but nope — it’s been more like a wild (but fun) roller coaster ride. I think someone once said if you want a masterclass in personal growth and development, start a business. In my experience, that rings true. When you have your own business, you learn a lot about a lot of things, including yourself.
One of the more recent struggles actually has been in pivoting my coaching practice to focus on working specifically with mental health therapists and other providers who work as healers/helpers in some capacity.
Making the decision to grow and refocus wasn’t challenging, but it also meant that I had to let go of what I’d already worked so hard to create. And I don’t think I’m alone in that sometimes it’s hard to let go of things you’ve worked hard on.
I’m actually still in the middle of the whole re-brand but over time, I’ve learned to give myself time and space to navigate all the twists and turns that life and having a business comes with…and accept that things don’t always happen as I’ve planned or on the timeline I prefer. It’s still a work in progress but I do have more fun these days with all the plot twists that tend to happen in life and in having a business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When people ask what I do, I love saying I’m on a mission to make change happen.
As a coach, I specialize in working with mental health therapists and other service-based providers (coaches, energy workers, healers/helpers, etc). and am passionate about shifting the social beliefs around “helpers” charging & getting paid for the work they do. I’m known for working on all the money/sales aspects of having a helping-based practice and for believing if you clear up your “stuff” around money & sales, you’ll enjoy more the work you do, you’ll show up more fully for your clients, and you’ll be able to create, grow, design and thrive in your practice/business.
My coaching practice focuses on: balancing helping others and getting paid, being abundant and also being a healer/helper, being able to give of yourself without getting drained, accepting that “sales” is part of your duty as a provider and how to overcome “objections” as it relates to the business aspect of having a helping based practice. I work with clients 1:1 and have small cohort group coaching programs as well.
I think what most sets me apart is my authenticity, energy, and my ability to lovingly (but firmly) challenge people beyond their own excuses, fears and perceived limitations.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Well, I actually grew up on a farm in a small town in Montana. As a kid, I loved (and still love) being outdoors and interacting with all the animals we had.
I also loved to write and had an active imagination — I remember as a kid making a newspaper with all the happenings of the farm– I had a weather section, an update on what all the animals were doing, a general classified section and of course some comics. I am fairly certain it was a short-lived venture but my family is great so they did “read” the few editions that were created.
I actually try to hold on to that kid in me and bring some of this into adulthood…for fun, I have given our two dogs and the cat that hangs on our porch job titles and bios.
