Today we’d like to introduce you to Charmaine Shirley
Hi Charmaine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Absolutely.
I grew up in a small, rural town in Central Illinois, where I was often told that my personality was “too big” for such a small place. I was the quintessential small-town girl with big-city dreams and a bold, ambitious spirit. While many of my peers were content with staying in our hometown, my drive to explore the world beyond came from the influence of my Uncles, who all left early to build their lives in bigger cities. Following their lead, I moved to Chicago after graduating from college, eager to experience the excitement of a bustling urban life.
After living in a few different cities, I ultimately decided to call Atlanta home. I’ve now been a proud resident of this vibrant city for 15 years, and it’s where I’ve built my career and my life.
My professional journey into Real Estate wasn’t a straight path, but each step played a crucial role in shaping who I am today. I began my real estate career in Property Management, working as an Area Manager, where I honed my skills in property operations, client relations, and the ins and outs of real estate investment. Along the way, I also served in the banking industry, where I worked my way up to a Vice President of Banking Operations. These experiences solidified my natural knack for finance, credit, lending, and money management—skills that would later become foundational to my real estate career.
While I was excelling in the corporate world, it was the inspiring example of a woman in real estate—Mrs. Suzette Moore—that truly ignited my passion for the industry. I admired her hustle, her grace, and her incredible knowledge as both a business owner and a real estate broker. Her example helped me realize that my heart was calling me to pursue real estate professionally, and I knew it was time to make the leap.
Atlanta is a city brimming with entrepreneurial energy, and I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many talented professionals. The combination of my background in banking, property management, and my exposure to Atlanta’s thriving real estate market naturally led me to my true calling. Real estate just made sense—and I haven’t looked back since.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road?
Ha! Smooth road as an entrepreneur or realtor? I wish! The truth is, the road has definitely had its bumps, detours, and unexpected twists.
As someone who holds herself accountable, I know that my success could be even greater if I were more consistent with things like my marketing, especially on social media. In this business, there’s no shortage of advice on how to “level up,” and a big part of that is being everywhere—online, in person, making connections, creating content, cold-calling, and attending events. But the reality is, I didn’t always have the bandwidth to do it all.
One of the hardest times in my life was when my father lost his battle to cancer just 11 months ago. For over a year, he was my primary focus, and understandably, that meant my business had to take a back seat. In June, I remember telling a friend that I wasn’t doing enough—wasn’t creating content, wasn’t making calls, wasn’t networking. I felt guilty for not going “hard enough.” And she said to me, “Charmaine, you’re being way too hard on yourself. Don’t you realize you’re still grieving? Give yourself some grace.”
It was exactly what I needed to hear, and in hindsight, I see that I could have given myself more grace during that time. But what I also learned is that we can’t do everything ourselves. My advice to anyone facing a similar challenge—whether personal or professional—is not to be afraid to ask for help or delegate. During that difficult period, a virtual assistant or extra support could have helped me stay more connected with my clients and my business. Sometimes, it’s okay to let go of a little control in order to focus on what truly matters.
The road may not always be smooth, but each struggle has taught me something valuable—about resilience, grace, and how important it is to recognize when you need support.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Today, I specialize in representing buyers and sellers across a variety of property types, including single-family homes, townhomes, and condominiums.
The most common feedback I receive from my clients is that I made them feel comfortable, I was accessible throughout the process, and I treated them all as if their deal was a million-dollar transaction.
But what truly sets me apart is my commitment to providing an exceptional, client-focused experience. Whether you’re purchasing your first home, searching for an investment property, or considering commercial real estate, I make it my priority to give you the highest level of service and attention from start to finish.
For me, there is no greater accomplishment than the trust and loyalty I receive from my clients. Referrals and repeat business are the ultimate compliment, and I’m proud that so many of my clients consider me not just a real estate agent, but a lifelong friend and professional resource. My approach is always detail-oriented, but more importantly, it’s rooted in building long-lasting relationships. When you work with me, you’ll never feel like just another transaction—you’ll gain a trusted partner for all your real estate needs.
What’s next?
The next step in my journey? The million-dollar year in Real Estate. I’m not just hoping for it—I’m ready for it. It’s time.
For the past three months, I’ve been laying the groundwork for 2025. I’ve hired a virtual assistant to help streamline operations, booked photoshoots, created a detailed content calendar, and invested in professional development training. I’m also in the process of finding a mentor—someone who will challenge me and help me grow even more. Every action I take is with one goal in mind: to be better, to be more, and to push past my limits.
I’m not just talking about growth in my business. I’m talking about personal transformation. I’m ready to make myself uncomfortable, because I know that’s the only way to elevate.
And, most importantly, I’m getting into position, because I know God has something big planned for me. I’m ready for Him to show me just how good it can get. It’s not just about financial success; it’s about being a vessel for the blessings that come when you are fully aligned with your purpose.
So here’s to 2025 and the million-dollar year—physically, mentally, and spiritually. I’m all in.
