Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherry Martin
cherry, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My grandmothers, Luetta Martin and Cherry Oglesby-Thompson, along with my father, Eugene Martin Jr., have been my greatest influences, even before I understood what influence meant. Each of them accomplished anything they set their minds to, and this ingrained a sense of determination in me, shaping me into the serial entrepreneur I am today.
My grandmother Luetta Martin was an administrative powerhouse and a lifelong learner. Her business acumen and unwavering belief in the importance of education instilled in me the value of hard work and diligence. She truly knew how to handle her affairs with grace.
On the other hand, my grandmother Cherry Oglesby-Thompson had a passion for fashion, beauty, and cosmetology. I found myself drawn to modeling and the world of beauty and cosmetics at the tender age of 10. As I transitioned into womanhood, I learned how to harness my passions and turn them into profit as a small business owner and international freelance model.
My father, an incredibly talented musician who thrived on singing and dancing, fueled my love for music and my pursuit of artistry within the entertainment industry. Although I never had the chance to meet my grandmother Cherry, the stories passed down through the generations remind me that her dreams and passions live on through me.
Today, my grandmother Luetta is living with dementia, yet her legacy of education and business savvy continues to guide me. My father passed away from liver cancer on New Year’s Eve 2024, but his music will forever resonate, and his legacy will thrive through my body of work.
I am grateful to my ancestors for shaping who I am and to God for refining my journey. I look forward to strutting down runways and posing on beaches around the globe. I’m committed to being a lifelong learner, embracing the evolving landscape of technology and information, and dedicated to creating music and art that promotes peace and healing.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a turbulent journey with ebs and flows. Taking care of my family has always been my greatest joy but biggest challenge as it has taken time away from investing time into my art, and at times quality of work. But every moment spent with my family was a learning moment filled with experiences I have been able to use and propel my business and modeling career forward. Losing my grandfather, father and one of my very best friends Aimi Perrett, who was truly more like a sister, really took a toll on my mental health and creating thinking processes. I had to learn how to grieve and reinvent myself time after time and I’ve found that every time the version of me that I became has been stronger, smarter, resilient and more loving than the last. I’ve learned to be patient and give myself grace throughout the journey and trust the process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I recently embarked on a journey in the event industry. We collaborated with businesses across a diverse range of sectors worldwide. I truly enjoyed traveling to conferences, where I was able to meet passionate individuals dedicated to creating outstanding shows, events, and seminars.
In addition to my work in event planning, I also serve as the COO of Rice Consulting Company , where I focus on communications. I thrive on connecting the dots between business owners and entrepreneurs through our membership incentives, fostering relationships that contribute to a larger vision. What I love most about my work is simplifying complex processes and problems, making them enjoyable and easily comprehensible.
Any big plans?
Without giving away too many surprises, I am working on a rebrand for my small business FEMININE Official and working with the team at Rice Consulting Company out of Greenville South Carolina on planning a few first time events and celebrations for an upcoming milestone.
With Project management being my latest title and newest official responsibility, I’m looking forward to taking on new projects and fine tuning my skills and growing my connections! There are upcoming events I’m looking forward to planning for.
