Check Out Cheryl Singletary’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Singletary.

Hi Cheryl, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved fashion. From playing dress-up to styling my Barbie dolls, it was a joy to see beauty come alive through colors, patterns, and fabrics. Growing up in church, there was considerable conversation around clothes and what women should wear– how we should dress, what we are to cover, how we are supposed to sit. I’ve always wondered why there was so much focus on women and what we are wearing and how what we wore affected our faith and relationship with God. Why does there seem to be a sort of body shaming in the church?

There have always been rules of what to put on the beautiful body of a woman, in and out of the church. This holds true regardless of our individual shapes and sizes or the pigmentation of our skin. The question has been, what does God say regarding Fashion and Faith? May I submit to you that you were fearfully and wonderfully made by The most lofty, savvy, notable and highly sought-after designer?

The very first sentence of the first chapter in this designer’s book reads, “At the beginning {I} created…” (Genesis 1:1). This tells me that is the very first thing He wants you to know about Him– He CREATES! He is the creator of creatives! In fact, His name is OMNIPOTENT: OMNI- which means all-inclusive, all by itself and POTENT, which means powerful potential. Potency is the result of a creative act, having made something empty, full, pulling potential out of what was and bringing it to its highest form!

So, the Lord put the desire in me to bring people out from old things, old mindsets and old thinking and tap into their buried potential. God gave me the desire to bring out your personal style, to bring you into your new! It is a desire to bring you up from the ashes, then carefully pull out the beauty that God created in your innermost parts, the hidden potential created from the beginning. It is important to God that you come forth into your ultimate purpose with confidence, power, and beauty. I help to facilitate that by creatively styling you under the unction of The Powerful Creator Himself!

I have the passion for making you look on the outside what God already has created on the inside. His word says He makes all things beautiful in time. He adorned the whole earth with vibrant colors and detailed parts! I am committed to do as my mentor, creator and Lead Stylist has done and pull out the powerful, confident, beautiful YOU! That’s my mission. That’s my passion.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My life has been full of obstacles. Widowed at the young age of 30, I found myself in a world of uncertainty and grief. I was in a whirlwind of devastation. My life changed unexpectantly and without my permission. I became a single parent and head of household in the twinkle of an eye and felt overwhelmed with the responsibility of raising my children alone.

Unfortunately, grief was no stranger in my life. I lost my father, my husband, my mother, my sister, and my best friend within the span of five short years. It was like everything I identified myself in was gone. I felt broken and lost, like a downward tailspin of grief and pain. It was only my faith in God that gave me the strength to exchange ashes of grief for beauty, sorrow for joy. I found strength in His word and promises.

I stood on this word: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Out of the ashes, I rose, a new being. Hurdling the obstacles of grief and finding life after loss catapulted me into a life of helping others;pulling them from the mound of ashes, their past hurts, and assisting them in finding the strength and confidence to live. Then comes a release from the prison of the past and the freedom to dwell in a new life of endless possibilities through faith. My mantra is two words in two ways: “Let go and Let’s go!”

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the visionary and owner of an online boutique called Drenched Style and Fashion Boutique. Drenched is a God idea. The idea emerged from selling tee shirts at my women’s conference held biannually. At the conference in 2018, instead of wearing our standard style of tee shirt, I put my logo on a fashionable Hi-lo blouse and everyone wanted one just like it. From that blouse, I began to brand other pieces of clothing, including dresses, denim jackets and pants, harem pants, and jumpsuits.

I found that Drenched is not just a tee shirt or just a dress or pair of pants. It’s not just fashion. Drenched is an experience! It’s an experience of joy, confidence, and freedom. It’s a proclamation to be free to express yourself and embrace your own beautiful! When you put on Drenched Styles, everywhere you walk is a personalized runway! You step with power, grace, and style!

Drenched Styles may cause involuntary smiling and the sudden urge to take pouty lip selfies with several poses! Every style is drenched with a passion for pouring God’s gift of love and beauty upon you! My tagline on every marketing or fashion post is, “Get fashion, get style, get Drenched!” I am tickled when the most reserved and introverted personalities wear my clothing or styles and post a picture or selfie on social media proclaiming, “I just got DRENCHED!”

It makes my day and fills my heart. I am truly blessed. This “Drenched Journey” has allowed me to travel, in spirit, to places my feet have not trod nor my hands touched through online purchases. My styles have been worn in so many places, and because of that, my passion flows through many hearts (and closets!). Whether it’s through one of my full-day Dreamgirl Makeovers or a purchase from the online Boutique, my heart is full and I am overjoyed. “Drenched” changed my life.

How do you define success?
Success is defined by finding purpose. Finding the thumbprint of God upon your life and working the heck out of it!
