Check Out Chretien Adams’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chretien Adams.

Hi Chretien, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised Stone Mountain GA. My dad introduced me to music very young. And my mom put me in orchestra and band when I was in elementary school. I Attended Stephenson High school, where I started making beats my senior year of high school. Ended up going to FAMU from 2017-2021 to major in Music Industry. When I was a college freshman I started writing, recording, and releasing music as an artist. While at FAMU I started a production company called 7233 Roots Music, where I produced a managed college artists in Tallahassee. Mostly my friends. I released over 20 singles and 2 projects between 2019 – 2021. During the pandemic of 2020, I started to pray for clarity on my purpose and I asked God to allow and help me create a completely new genre of music. After college I began working for a LA Based Soul music record label called Affective Music. Owned by FAMU alum David S. Hargrett. I worked as an artists management assistant for Grammy nominated and winning artists Jamison Ross, Avery*Sunshine, and Mykal Kilgore. This job was where I learned about the music industry and record business. During this time I was producing an album for a friend of mine and that wa when my prayer was answered and God gave me Golden Groove. I left Affective music after about a year and began working for City Winery as the Greenroom attendant where I met artists like Musiq Soulchild, Mary J. Blige, Chrisette Michele, Lloyd, Tone Stith, and DOE. I started substitute teaching at the same time. So that was my start to teaching. Fast forward to 2023 I released my second album and became the chorus and music technology teacher at my Alma mater Stephenson High School. Since then I’ve released 4 songs with students of mine, and I just released my 5th studio album “Change of Heart”. Now Golden Groove is an official trademarked and incorporated Entertainment and Educational Servicing Company that centers around the original musical genre Golden Groove—a fusion of Christian-Pop-Soul music created by Chrétien Adams. Rooted in a mission to bring change and build community, Golden Groove extends beyond music to inspire transformation through the arts, education, fashion, film, business, and ministry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been very bumpy. In 2022 I got fired from Affective Music lol that’s why I had to start teaching and work at city winery. Moving from Florida back to Georgia and leaving all of the resources I had behind was a difficult transition because I went from collaborating and creating with others 24/7 to now having to start over and do it alone from scratch. Trademarking Golden Groove took 3 years. Also I struggled for years and am still battling how to balance the identity of being an artists vs being a producer/manager/executive because I love to create and perform and tell my stories but I have found so much success helping and serving others. Also deciding what name to go by. My name is Chretien which is Christian is French. So, the spelling of my name usually throws people off. But oh well we’re gonna be who we are and go by our God given name Chretien Adams

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been blessed to create a new genre of music called Golden Groove. I also call it Golden Groove Gospel because I always create to glorify God. I write, produce, sing, arrange, compose, and perform my music. And I have successfully done it for others. I am most proud of my most recent project “Change of Heart” because it’s only the beginning of how far I know I will go with Golden Groove. What sets me apart is how my brand impact the community as a whole. Golden Groove brings so many different kinds of people together and all to Learn and Love each other in the name of God. The vibe we create is real and Godly. No fake stuff.
