Check Out Christian Powell’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Powell.

Hi Christian, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Photography has always been a passion. Well to start, I’m a creative at heart. From drawing, painting, dancing, though the power of behind a camera has always intrigued me. While in college I started to self-teach myself photography. Learning how to actually use my camera, and also enrolling in a few art classes. I kept getting asked by friends and random people if would capture certain events for them at a charge. I never thought to even charge people, even more of starting a business. Luckily had a few mentors in different departments that I lacked. Soon before my realization, Christian Powell Photography was being born. After college, I decided to juggle working a 9-5 and pursuing my photography business. Which a whole series within itself, though is only part of my journey. This current day my business and clientele has doubled regardless of living in a pandemic lifestyle. In the near future, I do see myself being a full-time professional photography. Just give me another year!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Every artist or creative knows there is no such thing as a smooth road in a journey. I’m sure my most recent obstacle was the same as everyone else’s, CORONA-VIRUS!! Which we are still living in until this day. I do want to send my regards to anyone who lost someone due to it. Though it has been financially and mentally hard, I kept my trigger finger steady (camera trigger), and my clientele has actually doubled since then. I learned better customer service key points that build even stronger relationships.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
This year my portfolio and resume have broaden wider actually. I did another campaign shoot with signed model Bretta Hart, Also I’ve worked with multiple music artists on creative elements for their career. I have done multiple EP covers, single covers, billboards, I work as creative direction for the artist RISINGLGCY. I was assigned to two tours for Yaya Davis’s Protect Artists Entertainment. Although I’m making my stamp in the music industry, my true passion is portrait photography. I love capturing the beauty of my subject through my lens and bringing it out on an image.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would definitely have to be when I was crowned the King of my Pre-K class. I had a huge ceremony during graduation and was crowned along with my with queen, The following year we had to come back and crown the next graduations in line.
