Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Chamblis.
Hi Christopher, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Christopher Chamblis, but most people know me as Chris James. I’m originally from Detroit, MI, and recently made the move to Atlanta to continue growing in my craft. Honestly, my story starts as a child singing and acting have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I was that kid performing in school plays, family gatherings, anywhere I had the chance. It wasn’t just a hobby; it was something that always pulled at me, even when life got heavy.
Growing up, I faced my share of ups and downs. There were seasons where everything felt uncertain, moments where I questioned if the dreams God placed in me were even possible. But every time I thought about stopping, God found a way to remind me why I started. Doors opened, opportunities came, and I kept pushing through the setbacks.
Over the years I’ve been able to turn those childhood dreams into a reality working in acting, singing, songwriting, and continuing to sharpen my skills. Moving to Atlanta was another leap of faith, but it’s been one of the most transformative steps I’ve taken. Being in a place full of creatives and opportunity has pushed me to grow not just as an artist, but as a man.
Where I am today is a result of God’s grace, consistency, and believing in the vision even when I couldn’t fully see it. And he’s still writing the story while I’m still chasing purpose, still evolving, and still trusting that the best chapters are ahead
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve gone through seasons where life felt like a constant uphill battle. There were moments when I was homeless, jobless, and even without a car just trying to figure out my next step while still holding onto the dreams God placed in me. On top of that, I went through a breakup with someone I truly believe is the love of my life. That alone was a heavy hit, and even now I still pray that, in God’s timing, reconciliation is possible.
There were times I felt like I’d take one step forward and get knocked three steps back. It was frustrating, humbling, and honestly painful. But even in those moments, God’s grace kept showing up for me. He carried me through things I never thought I’d make it out of. Looking back, every setback taught me something, strengthened me, and prepared me for what I’m stepping into now.
Where I am today is living proof of God’s faithfulness. And even though I’m still growing and still healing, I know this is only the beginning of what He’s doing in my life.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’d say my work really lives at the intersection of creativity, purpose, and storytelling. I’m a singer/songwriter and an actor, and I try to bring authenticity to everything I do whether it’s a song, a performance, or even the conversations I have with people. Soon, I’ll also be launching a new faith-based podcast geared toward helping men grow in their faith, walk in their purpose, and step deeper into who God is calling them to be. That’s something I’m truly excited about, because it feels like another extension of my calling.
Creatively, my specialties are definitely my vocals and my ability to write from a place of honesty. I’ve always had a natural way with words and a desire to tell stories that make people feel something. Lately, I’ve been experimenting with new sounds and exploring Gospel and Christian R&B blending my artistry with my relationship with God. You may hear some of that from me soon.
What I’m most proud of, though, is my perseverance. No matter what I’ve faced, I’ve stayed committed to the vision and kept evolving. And I think what sets me apart is my willingness to self-reflect and rebrand when necessary to grow, to shift, and to align myself with God, my purpose, and the people who support me. I’m not afraid to change if it means becoming who I’m truly meant to be.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice for anyone just starting out is don’t give up, no matter what people say or think. There will always be doubt sometimes from others, sometimes from yourself but if God placed something in your heart, it’s worth fighting for. Pray before you make decisions, before you take steps, before you launch anything. Let God be the foundation of your moves, not the backup plan.
One thing I wish I knew earlier is that everyone’s journey is different. It’s easy to compare your timing to someone else’s highlight reel, but that only steals your peace. Your process won’t look like anyone else’s, and that’s okay. Don’t rush it. Trust God, trust the pace He sets for you, and trust that every stage slow or fast is shaping you for what’s ahead.
