Check Out Comedian Sevonta’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Comedian Sevonta.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I always wanted to do comedy since I was a little kid but never had the confidence especially after I told my family at the age of nine, I wanted to be a comedian like any family that never achieved their dreams; they shot mine down due to lack of belief and being small-minded country people. Later in life, I was in the military and I was going through a lot constantly praying to god asking him what’s my purpose after several months I ended up getting tickets to see Mike Epps, earthquake, some more, and dc young fly in Kansas City. No one wanted to go so I went alone, during the show while everyone was laughing in the arena, an overwhelming feeling came over me and that day I knew what I suppose to do in 2019. I didn’t know how to start in comedy so I googled open mics near me the closest was in Wichita Kansas which was 2hrs and 30mins away knowing I was getting off duty at 5pm and had to be back on duty at 430am, I drove that for six months straight until I forced the military to discharge me. I moved to Oklahoma City to pursue my comedy career, while living there, I quickly made a name for myself after a year, I knew I wasn’t gonna make it.

During the time I was thinking about quitting but I ended up meeting comedian tony tone and he told me to move to Atlanta we was broke but my girl believed in my dream so we put our taxes together packed up our family and moved immediately. Once I got to Atlanta no one would let me perform but I ran into comedian Kelly k dubb who was the first comedian to let me on stage and ended up becoming my mentor. Moving to Atlanta let me understand the business of comedy which led me to creating my first show the “ exit #47 comedy get down” a clean comedy show that donated to Coweta Community foundation to help rebuild my hometown Newnan, ga that was hit by a devastating tornado of 2021. Which had 300 ppl in attendance, I created the whole concept and line up with comedian Bo p, Joel BYARS, and Kelly k dubb. I didn’t want to stop there immediately after that show I took my talents on the road and created the “ATL COMEDY TAKEOVER” it took place a bricktown comedy club in Oklahoma City. I hosted while having throwed off Juan, Kelly k dubb and Mario Tory in April 2022. Recently I had the opportunity to open up for Bruce Bruce at the bells auditorium in Augusta Georgia.

Bottom line I want the people to know I’m solely independent. Everything I’ve done I created, booked and promoted. Self-made comedian and I’m only 25 with 3 kids ain’t no excuse to not achieve your dreams.

Live in your dreams or die in your reality,

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Hell Naww, being a family man, working and achieving your dreams is never easy. Dealing with a family that always says negative things about your dream. You just have to remove yourself from negative things.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a standup comedian. I personally do my own bookings. What sets me apart from everybody else that I am independent. I don’t wait for an opportunity I create my own opportunity.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Wash your dirty ass hands.
