Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Starks. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Highly motivated, resilient, and passionate, Courtney Starks is a pinnacle representation of what it means to persevere, even when things get tough. He is a leading music minister, youth minister, social media influencer, and the founder of Courtney’s Corner LLC, a brand with the mission to inform, inspire, and engage its audience through a variety of topics that are affecting millennials today.
Courtney has been put through the ultimate tests in life, starting at an extremely young age. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, by his loving grandmother after his mother passed away at age 30. Then in 2008, Courtney was told that the end of his life was inevitably coming due to a significant decline in his health. In 2014, just before he was about to go under for his first kidney transplant, Courtney was pulled from the donor list, as his heart condition made him inoperable. When all hope seemed lost, Courtney fought and pulled through, finally receiving his life-saving kidney transplant in 2017.
But don’t let the challenges above fool you; Courtney still followed his dreams and made an authentic life for himself despite his underlying conditions. During his struggles, he earned a Business Administration degree from Nyack College and established Courtney’s Corner in 2010. Though he took a break from it during the prime of his health decline, he relaunched in 2018 and has been thriving ever since.
Today, Courtney runs the Courtney’s Corner Community Foundation and is currently managing the hit series One on One with Courtney Starks shown on Roku, Amazon Fire, YouTube, Apple TV, ETC… Courtney faced battles that no human should have to and has proven to be an iconic role model that instills positivity, hope, and strength in others so they can prosper through anything they face.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been far from easy, and challenges come with the journey, but with those challenges come growth and prosperity.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Outside of being a media personality. I’m also a praise and worship singer as well as the author of my book “My Kidneys Failed Me But God Didn’t” A Story Of Growth & Rediscovery. I’m most proud of choosing to live despite my health battles and despite what others might have limited me to. I choose to push past those walls and chase my dreams.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice would be to tell yourself every day that “I don’t get the right to give up.” Someone’s journey is tied to your story and they need you to make it. One thing I wish I was told when starting is that I try to instill in others that it’s okay to try again. True failure isn’t failure unless you give up.
