Check Out Courtney Sutton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Sutton.

Hi Courtney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Although I haven’t yet established a formal business, I began dancing professionally in the summer of 2020 and haven’t stopped since. As I continued to perform and develop my craft, I realized that I needed to improve my skills and push myself further. I’ve always believed that talent isn’t something you’re simply born with; rather, it’s a pursued interest that requires dedication and consistent practice. With this philosophy in mind, I decided to start an ambitious project: documenting myself performing the same dance routine every single day for an entire year. This commitment would not only help me track my progress and improvement over time but also serve as a testament to the power of persistence and deliberate practice in developing one’s abilities.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, there were many days when I missed documenting myself or simply didn’t feel up to the task, weighed down by self-doubt or exhaustion. But I made a conscious decision to show myself some grace and compassion during those moments. I reminded myself that progress doesn’t happen overnight; it’s a gradual journey that requires patience and persistence.

Over time, as I continued to share my experiences openly and honestly, I began to notice something remarkable: my transparency was actually helping dancers who had stepped away from dancing for years find their way back to it. Even more surprisingly, I was inspiring people who had never danced before to take their first steps onto the dance floor. I had never been trained professionally, and I hadn’t ever taken a formal class up until that point in my life. Despite my lack of traditional credentials, I realized that my journey and authenticity were resonating with others. That’s when I decided I needed to fully embrace the community and all the connections and opportunities it offered.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a multipotentialite. If you don’t know what that means, no worries, I’ve got you covered. I am simply an individual with a wide range of talents and creative pursuits, which makes me sort of like a Jack of all trades. However, the main difference is that I, unlike a Jack of all trades, am a master of many trades, not just dabbling in various skills, but developing genuine expertise across diverse domains. Like a Unicorn, a rare breed that combines multiple skills into something magical!

In short, I’m a dancer with extensive training in contemporary and commercial styles, who has developed specialized expertise in motion graphics and animation. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, where I learned to blend my understanding of movement and spatial awareness with visual storytelling and digital design principles.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I have countless favorite childhood memories, but the one that speaks to me most at this moment is dancing during the holidays. It didn’t matter what song was playing or what time of day it was; if the music was on, I was dancing. I would spin around the living room, completely lost in the rhythm, moving without a care in the world.

My family would laugh and sometimes join in, but more often they’d just let me do my thing while they carried on with their own holiday preparations. This happened so frequently that I’m captured on tape many times, just dancing somewhere in the background of family videos, whether it was Christmas morning, New Year’s Eve, or any celebration in between. Looking back at those old tapes now, I can see the pure joy on my face, the uninhibited freedom of movement, and the way music could transport me to my own little world even in the middle of all the holiday chaos.
