Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Williams.
Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have been creative my entire life, but I let imposter syndrome talk me out of showcasing my skills. Until I became a mother and that was the fuel I needed in order to push me to be the most amazing version of myself. I wanted to show who I am outside of being a mother. So now I am a chef, author, and creator. I sell locally and I am currently building my children’s book community. My primary focus will always be my family but immediately after that is myself and how I can continue to grow and enhance my skills.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
NO NO NO. No road is smooth but the victories at the end always overshadowed everything else. From missed deadlines to failed projects to personal failures there has and will always be struggles. I remind myself that tough times do not last but a tougher person will come out the other side. I also want to take this opportunity for anyone reading this that tough is subjective never let someone tell you that you aren’t tough.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in custom crafts such as signs, shirts, and Snowglobe cups, anything you can dream I can make. When I am not writing books. Currently, my first book Callabee’s Colossal Feelings is five started rated and available on Amazon, Book A Million, Barnes and Noble, Walmart, and other online retailers. In the next month, I will be starting on my second book working with the amazing Irma Malik. In the world of Children’s books, I am known for spreading positive messages and experiences with characters that we have not seen before. I have so many big projects planned to bring new characters and perspectives to marginalized communities that not only give our children new concepts to explore but also heal the inner children of the parents purchasing those books.
I am super proud of myself for not listening to that voice in my head and pushing through. I am juggling continuing my education, learning and growing with my daughter, and staying true to myself and what I want. I write books that I needed when I was younger and that is super important.
What matters most to you? Why?
Staying true to my values and morals and finally finding my voice. I used to let anyone say anything to me for the sake of fitting in/having friends. That Courtney is gone. My voice matters.
Focus on all the good in life no matter how much turbulence.
If my daughter can grow up and say her mother tried her hardest, stayed true to herself, and lead with empathy without being a doormat that is what is important to me.
