Today we’d like to introduce you to Darian Holt.
Darian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The story behind Apple Fried Apple is very unique. It started from me informing my 6th-grade students that I was a part of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and they misheard me thinking I said “Apple Fried Apple Inc”. My students jokingly called me that for weeks so I started to play along with them and make them become the Apple fried apples themselves by giving them Apple names and pretending like they were on line by getting them line shirts. After posting our pictures and videos, we went extremely viral and it’s been history since. We’ve been featured on Good Morning America, Watch The Yard, local news, radio stations, BET Awards, and other major platforms. We also managed to get recognition and support from big brands such as Snapple, Mott’s, Dole, Martinelli’s, Popeyes, and more. The support and love has been absolutely amazing. Apple Fried Apple Inc. had taken a life of its own and has truly allowed me to inspire the youth worldwide.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a smooth road simply because of the positivity it promotes and has allowed kids an opportunity to be a part of something positive as well. I have received tons of support behind the movement which has led to my continued success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently teach but I am also a content creator. Being able to merge the two within my classroom has allowed me to reach new heights with my influence. Being able to educate and also influence the youth has been great. I am most proud of the impact that I am leaving on kids and allowing them to be a part of something that can influence them to go to college and better themselves in the future. By introducing HBCU’s and greek culture, my students can be aware of what they can one day do if they attend college. I want kids to know that they can be influential and achieve anything they put their minds to. I am most proud that I have been able to share my story on huge platforms so people can become aware of the positive things that can come from young black men such as myself.
