Today we’d like to introduce you to David Heyton.
Hi David, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in lilburn area then moved to suwanee, when I was in high school I started playing guitar in bands with high school friends. When I graduated I took a year off and then applied to berklee college of music and got accepted but couldn’t go due to financial troubles. I then moved to Nashville in 2020 and played a couple gigs there but then covid came and all the shows stopped so I moved back to Georgia where I’ve been playing acoustic and band gigs with local atl musicians trying to make a name for myself. I’m working on writing my own music and still playing with my band at different venues around atl.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely finding professional musicians has been a struggle, getting booked at different places has also been hard, but once I get the ooo the restaurant/bar doesn’t wanna let me go. It’s just a matter of getting the opportunity to play and the venue and crowd is always more than satisfied.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I play guitar and sing in a band or solo, I play all kinds of music from country, rock, blues, soul and rnb. I’m most proud of the variety of music my band and I can play, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. I think what sets me apart from other besides the variety of genres is the ability to play solos and sing, something that not a lot of musicians can do well.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m self taught and most of my gigs I don’t make anything I try to pay the musicians that play with me almost everything so that I can keep playing with quality musicians.
