Today we’d like to introduce you to Deja Martin.
Hi Deja, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my business in August 2020. I’ve always had a passion for natural hair. Growing up, I used to get relaxers to make my hair more “manageable.” Once I got older, I realized that my natural hair is very manageable, I just didn’t have the knowledge to properly manage it. I started researching the best ways to care for my natural hair. After ten years of trial and error and multiple big chops, Alldaeee Curls LLC was born. When I started my natural hair journey 13 years ago, there were not a lot of hair products created for kinks and curls. I work closely with a cosmetic chemist who specializes in natural hair products. Together we have carefully created each product available in my line.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has not been a smooth journey by far. In the beginning, I wanted to physically create the products myself by myself. I realized almost two years in that the best way for me to create my line is to work with an expert that can help me formulate each product. I tried to do everything by myself from the website to the labels, to marketing. Working with a team of individuals that know more than I do in various areas has helped me so much on the journey to making my brand a household name.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m in Human Resources specializing in Field Operations. I have a degree in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations from Georgia State University. What sets me apart is the passion that I have for natural hair. I am always researching and learning more and more about natural hair and ways to rectify the problems that we all experience when trying to embrace our natural hair. From retaining moisture, combatting frizz, eliminating breakage, defining our kinks/curls and more, I am always seeking to increase my knowledge base. I am a huge gym head and one of the things I noticed is how hard it is when trying to embrace your natural hair and having a strict gym schedule. My New Collection, releasing in August 2023, specializes in protecting and maintaining your natural kinks and curls (and your edges, lol) while you get your workouts in!
