Today we’d like to introduce you to Denyce Davis
Hi Denyce, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
From a young age, I was captivated by makeup and the endless ways it allowed me to express my creativity. My journey into the beauty industry began when I became a brand ambassador for Hottie Minks, a lash brand founded by my sister and her best friend. Over time, they invited me to become a partner, and as I immersed myself in the business, I fell in love with showcasing my creative abilities. I was constantly amazed by what I was able to create, and soon, I realized this was more than just a business—it was my passion.
Eventually, my sister and her best friend decided to pursue their own paths, leaving me with the opportunity to take over the business. I knew I had to see it through because I believed in its potential and was determined to elevate it to new heights.
With that vision in mind, I took a step back and went on a hiatus to completely rebrand. What started as a lash brand evolved into a full-fledged cosmetics line—Hottie Cosmetics—built on the belief that beauty has no bounds and goes beyond the surface.
To me, a Hottie is a woman who is bold, confident, and unapologetically herself—someone who never tiptoes through life but makes every step count. I refused to simply dabble in the beauty industry; I wanted to make a lasting impact. And this journey is proof of that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Rebranding and taking Hottie Cosmetics to the next level wasn’t easy—it was a journey filled with challenges, lessons, and moments of self-doubt. When I decided to transition the brand from just lashes to a full cosmetics line, I knew it wouldn’t happen overnight. I had to take a step back, go back to the drawing board, and completely reimagine what the brand could be. Starting over came with risks, but I was determined to create something truly special.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the pressure to continuously push my creativity to new heights. As someone who has always loved expressing myself through beauty, I wanted every product and every launch to reflect that passion. But with that came moments of self-doubt—wondering if what I was creating was good enough or if people would connect with my vision. I had to learn to trust myself, embrace the creative process, and remind myself why I started.
Beyond the creative side, I also had to face the reality of running a business. It’s easy to fall in love with the beauty of it all, but behind the scenes, there’s marketing, inventory, finances, and so much more. Balancing my passion with the business side of things was a learning curve, but I refused to let it overwhelm me. I embraced every challenge, knowing that true success comes from mastering both artistry and strategy.
Rebranding also meant building a loyal customer base. I wasn’t just selling products—I was introducing people to a new vision, a new standard of beauty. It took time to establish trust, connect with my audience, and show them that Hottie Cosmetics was more than just another brand—it was a movement. Through consistency, authenticity, and staying true to my purpose, I’ve been able to cultivate a community of women who embody confidence, boldness, and self-expression.
Every challenge I faced only made me more determined to succeed. I didn’t just want to exist in the beauty industry—I wanted to make my mark. And this journey has been proof that when you believe in your vision, push past self-doubt, and commit to the work, anything is possible.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the owner and creative force behind Hottie Cosmetics, a beauty brand built on confidence, boldness, and self-expression. I specialize in creating high-quality cosmetics that empower women to embrace their individuality without limits. Originally starting as a brand ambassador for the company when it was Hottie Minks, I eventually became a partner, and later, the sole owner, transforming it from a lash brand into a full cosmetics line.
What I’m most proud of is the journey it took to get here. Rebranding from the ground up was a challenge, but I was determined to create something that truly resonated with my vision. Every product I develop is an extension of my creativity, and seeing people connect with my brand on a deeper level is the most rewarding feeling.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just sell beauty products—I create a movement. To me, a Hottie is someone who is unapologetically herself, who doesn’t tiptoe through life but walks with confidence. My brand embodies that energy, and I make sure every aspect of Hottie Cosmetics reflects it.
In addition to running my business, I also work in customer service and the medical field, which has taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of genuine connections. These experiences have shaped the way I approach my brand—prioritizing quality, care, and a commitment to making every customer feel valued.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The COVID-19 crisis was a huge eye-opener for me in both life and business. If there’s one thing I took away from it, it’s that adaptability is everything. Nothing in life is guaranteed, and being able to pivot, adjust, and keep pushing forward—no matter the circumstances—is what truly sets you apart.
From a business perspective, I saw how quickly things could change, especially in the beauty industry. People weren’t just buying products anymore; they were looking for comfort, self-care, and brands that actually resonated with them. That made me rethink my approach and focus on building something deeper than just cosmetics—a brand that’s about confidence, empowerment, and real connection.
On a personal level, COVID-19 taught me patience and trust. I used to feel like I had to have everything figured out right away, but the pandemic showed me that sometimes, stepping back and reassessing is just as important as moving forward. It was a tough time, but it pushed me to grow in ways I never expected, and for that, I’m grateful.
