Check Out Desiree Rice’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Desiree Rice.

Hi Desiree, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into travel started the same way it does for many people—by being the go-to planner for family and friends. I’ve always had a natural love for details and creating experiences that feel effortless yet intentional. For over 20 years, my professional background was in healthcare, where I learned the value of precision, organization, and taking care of people. But I realized those same skills translated perfectly into travel—helping others plan stress-free, meaningful escapes.

What started as helping loved ones with their vacations grew into Dez Does Travel, my rebranded agency where I specialize in group trips, milestone celebrations, and curated escapes for grown professionals who want more than just a vacation—they want an experience. Today, I can say by not giving up because it’s not easy being a travel agent without a network of clients, and mentorship. I get to merge my organizational strengths with my passion for travel by creating trips that are elevated, personal, and completely hassle-free. It’s been a journey of trusting my passions and turning them into a business I’m proud of.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. In the beginning, the most discouraging part was the lack of clients. I knew I had the passion and the skills, but building trust and visibility in a new industry takes time. On top of that, competing with massive online companies like Priceline and Expedia can feel intimidating—they’ve got the budget, the name recognition, and the reach.

But I had to remind myself that what I offer is different. They can’t give the personal connection, the attention to detail, or the tailored service that I do. Still, there were times when it felt overwhelming figuring out marketing, learning the systems, and trying to stand out in a crowded space. Those challenges forced me to get sharper, more strategic, and intentional about who I serve. Looking back, I can see that every setback made me stronger and helped me build a business that’s personal, sustainable, and true to who I am.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m the founder of Dez Does Travel, where I specialize in crafting stress-free, personalized experiences for grown professionals who want more than just a vacation—they want an unforgettable vibe. My focus is on group trips, milestone celebrations, and adults-only escapes, because I believe travel should feel effortless and elevated, not overwhelming.

What I’m most proud of is building a business that reflects who I am and what I love: creating moments where people can truly unplug, connect, and celebrate. I’ve helped clients pull off everything from bachelor cruises to class reunions to luxury getaways and seeing the joy those trips create—that’s the best part of my work.

What sets me apart is that I’m not cookie-cutter. I don’t just send you links or shuffle you through a booking engine. I listen, I customize, and I care about the little details that make your trip feel like yours. While big-box companies like Priceline sell generic packages, I curate experiences that match your rhythm, your style, and your story. That personal touch is what makes my work stand out

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
It surprises people that I served 20 years in the United States Army in the healthcare field. before rebranding myself as a travel agent. Another surprising fact is how hands-on I am. Many people think a travel agent just books flights and hotels, but I’m deeply involved in the experience—from creating branded itineraries to organizing group chats and making sure the vibe matches the client’s vision. I bring the same precision and care from my healthcare background into travel, which is why my clients often say it feels like I planned their trip as if it were my own.
