Today we’d like to introduce you to Diandra Thompson.
Diandra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been a creative and visual learner. As a little girl, I had a great appreciation for great storytelling through photos and video. Growing up, I enjoyed arts & crafts, rummaging through family albums and overall just creating! It wasn’t until recent years I accepted the title of being ‘a creative’ because I used to think identifying as ‘a creative’ was so cliche. That imposter syndrome really is something else! It stunted my creativity which resulted in feeling reluctant to even pick up a camera sometimes. Fall 2019, I decided to take a leap of faith and move to Atlanta and since then, I’ve experienced the greatest creative and personal growth ever which has made me more excited to trust my talent & creativity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My mother always said, “Anything worth having in this life isn’t going to be easy.” I’ve carried that with me my entire life, but if didn’t truly hit me until after graduating college and I faced the real world. Dealing with life’s clap backs as a young adult allowed me to face and overcome a few adulting growing pains. I often laugh to myself and say, “Adulting is so ghetto!” I’ve learned to give myself grace and understand I’m not the only 20’something feeling this way. There is no smooth road toward success, “Fall seven times, get up eight,” the only way is through consistency. This year, 2022, I’m all about truly being the artist of my life, canceling out all worry about making a wrong move and just going for it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an Atlanta-based photographer and digital marketing strategist that enjoys capturing moments that allow my audience to feel, be, and reminisce. I enjoy making people look and feel good about themselves. To me, that’s your job as a photographer to capture individuals at their most authentic self and that is what I love to do!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
If I were to give any advice, I’d say just to start! Nothing has to make sense to anyone else but you. Trust yourself and don’t worry about knowing all the answers. Figuring it out is what makes the journey so exciting. It’s normal to wonder, “Am I doing this the right way,” but also understand there is no right way of creating your story because it’s yours and yours to tell.
And most importantly, it’s all in your perception. Look at how far you HAVE come and give yourself credit for that because you are doing an amazing job.
