Check Out Diego Aristizabal’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Aristizabal.

Hi Diego, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I arrived in the United States legally in October 1998, coming here to build a new life. The family were we where staying was already involved in the cleaning industry—working for established cleaning companies cleaning homes. I was just 20 years old at the time, full of dreams but with limited experience. When I first applied for a job, the employer was hesitant, unsure if I was capable of handling the work. It took some time, and a few acquaintances intervening on my behalf, but eventually, I was given a chance.

I started working as an assistant, helping with cleaning jobs. Over time, I proved myself and earned my own route, Even as a young man, I had big goals, and I wasn’t afraid to explore different paths. I tried also differents jobs, painting, working in factories, and even took on roles as a secretary for Latino TV channels. I also pursued studies in graphic design and technology, specializing in computer drafting and design.

My career took a turn when I began working for a plumbing company, which gave me valuable experience in a different industry. But my entrepreneurial spirit kept pushing me. One day, I was contacted by someone looking for a person to manage cleaning services for a small medical testing hospital in downtown. I decided to take that opportunity and returned to cleaning, focusing on both homes and businesses.

Seeing how much my clients appreciated my work, I decided to leave the plumbing company and fully dedicate myself to growing my cleaning business. I started securing commercial cleaning contracts, and word of mouth began to spread. Referrals from satisfied clients helped me expand even further. Since mid-2008, I have built a thriving cleaning business, managing seven teams that serve various counties and commercial clients.

Today, I am proud of how far I’ve come—from a young man with little experience to a business owner with a successful cleaning operation. My journey has been full of challenges, exploration, and growth, but through perseverance and dedication, I’ve turned my dream into reality.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

One of my biggest challenges has been the language barrier, as I didn’t speak English fluently at first, which made communication and business management more difficult. Additionally, I didn’t have much experience in running a business. However, as I grew in my work, I also improved my education and skills. I have constantly taken courses to better understand how to manage a business, from customer service and supervising my helpers to bookkeeping, advertising, and providing high-quality service. I’ve learned that in the cleaning industry, daily training and continuous improvement are essential to delivering excellent service and growing the business.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I enjoy what I do because every day is an adventure. Having the women’s who help me and being able to offer them a job that allows them to support their families is very important, especially in a country where everything moves so fast and free time with family is so limited.

Being able to help people enjoy a weekend to rest and spend quality time with their loved ones, without worrying about cleaning the house, is essential. That family time helps build stronger bonds of love and promotes a more effective coexistence.

Many clients tell me that, after a hard day of work, when they come home and smell that feeling of cleanliness and order, it’s incredible. Knowing that, thanks to our work, they can relax and enjoy their home makes me very proud. Because, for all of us to rest properly, our home must transmit peace, and there’s no better way to achieve that than with a clean house.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson for me is to never let myself be defeated by difficulties. Even if it’s just a small step each day, I make an effort to do something to improve myself, both personally and professionally. When I look back now, I can see everything I’ve accomplished. It hasn’t happened overnight, but each day is just one step forward.
