Check Out DJ Ron Burgandy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Ron Burgandy.

DJ Ron, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Man! Where do I start? Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1992 to two beautiful loving parents Odessa and Leon Benson, they named a young king Laron Benson I moved to Atlanta in 1996 and the rest of history. I can remember my dad and mom have a very wide range of music tastes from The Roots all the way to some of the Hidden Beach collectives. That is where my love for music began. I was also into sports and being an athlete was very satisfying but I always knew deep down inside music was my passion I just did not know how to channel that passion. In high school, there was a good friend of mine who asked me to “make a playlist” for a party he was going to throw, and it was like a light went of in my head. I told him ” I can DJ it for you if you like” and I haven’t looked back since. That was the start and my introduction to being a DJ.

All throughout college I djeeyd several parties but nothing to serious to where I could see myself doing this for a living and making a business out of it. With that way of thinking I put the headphones and DJ controller down and just focused on working and trying to find my nitch.

Fast forward a few years down the road, the pandemic arrived and I was still working but that was pretty much it, just work and then come home. I was cleaning out my closet and came across my old DJ controller and headphones I put down a few years back. I think to myself “you ain’t doing anything else you mind as well go ahead”. The passion came back right at that instant. I start to freestyle to see if it would come back to me and it did, from there I started to make my own mixes for the house playing them for company that would come over once it was safe for them to do so. One of those people was a young man named Marcus Carter who has a podcast called CNTRD. He heard one of my mixes and thought my type of DJ style would be perfect for his podcast, so I start to make mixes and send them to him every week as he had a new show every Saturday.

With this new confidence, I start to shop my services around in Atlanta as a private, club, radio and playlist DJ. I have djeeyd at lounges in Atlanta such as APT 4B where I am there every Saturday for happy hour from 6-9p.m. The parlor in Atlanta off of Peter’s street in the heart of the city just to name a few and numerous of private events from birthday parties, family reunions and even corporate events.

As of today, I am radio dj for oooweee radio station and along with my happy hour mainstay at Apt 4B in Atlanta, but djing is only the foundation. I want to turn this DJing into an entertainment service, get into production and engineering and have several legitimate business. The sky is the limit and I plan on getting there!!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of self-doubts started to creep in because of my late reintroduction to the art of DJing. Buying equipment and selling myself to be taking seriously amongst my peers, has also been an obstacle that I had to overcome.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creating and unforgettable music experience that will make a lasting impression.

What’s next?
I’m looking forward to learning more about DJing, turntableism, and becoming and better DJ overall. My plans for the future are to establish relationships with other DJs to collaborate on future projects I have been working on.
