Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Gardner.
Hi Dominique, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story starts with my Dad introducing me to his film cameras. I remember he would always have a camera with him, on holidays and family functions. Now fast forward to the present time. I am only shooting films and creating concepts. My first photobook is set to be released Mid 2023, If everything goes as planned this should be some interesting content. Completely built around concepts.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not, I think when you’re an artist or just a professional in your field, you’re going to have ups and downs. The strive for perfection is something that is important to me. That is a part of life and the struggle comes along with it. Growing pains play a factor in my story.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m always pushing myself into creating content that speaks to the public. My views, my thoughts is how I differ from the rest of the world. I love to make conceptual work and editorial photography. Working with film is kinda nostalgic. Being a film photographer in this day and age is special to me. I feel like I’m setting myself far apart from everyone else just by simple moves like these.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I might sound crazy for this but, I don’t think you should go out to find a mentor. Let your mentor find you. Continue to work on your craft and the people will come. Your team will come. Your mentor will come trust me. Just focus on the projects that you are working on and that’s it.
