Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominique Quinn.
Hi Dominique, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m an upcoming versatile and triple threat artist in the music industry. I’m originally from Long Island New York, I moved to Atlanta my junior year of high school when i was 16, so I’ve been here for almost 7 years. I started my passion for music at the age of 9 but was inspired by Beyoncé at the age of four. At the age of 16 is when I started taking my music career seriously, sneaking out the house to go to the studio on a school night. I attended the Art Institute of Atlanta to study music producing, I met so many people and made so many big moves, from Touring with Neva Fallin and Penny Lane Pablo, Interviewing BMF and Benzino from Love & Hip Hop, Performing for Verse Rare Laflare, having Radio plays and being interviewed by Tampa Mystic and working with Deraj Global, and making an appearance on the Reality show “Chasing Dallas”, performing and overall networking to take my career to the next level.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Haha, no my journey has not been smooth, getting to where you want to be especially in this industry is hard and it comes with a lot of sacrifices, *sigh* it comes with a lot, jealousy, envy, walking away from certain people, out growing people, and the men especially!, being a woman especially a black woman in this male dominating industry is hard, times have changed though, I went through a lot of trials and tribulations, mentally, spiritually and emotionally but i think God for covering me and protecting me every step of the way, this is what i wanted! and the level I want to be at is going to come with PLENTY, Jay-Z once said “More Money more problems” but some of the struggles I faced in this industry would be really jealousy, people praying on my downfall wishing I’ll of success, People trying to stop my bag out of intimidation.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Well one of my inspirations are Timbaland and Victoria Monét, So my sound is very upbeat and New York, I love me a good 808 bass, but I’m currently working on my first EP “Apologize in Advanced” it will be a 8 song project produced by T-Kells. The type of sound I’ll be having on my project is similar to my single “Paper” that I released last year March 11th, overall I’m most proud of my accomplishments and the new opportunities that came my way, but what sets me apart from others is my sound, I never changed, Atlanta has influenced my “drip”.
How do you define success?
Believing that you can do it, and ignoring the negativity, take a leap of faith honestly, reach out to people you wouldn’t expect to collaborate with, I believe in that! and that there is no such thing as limitations and bar setting, set the bar high and have high expectations and watch how God and the universe grants you everything you desire, success is believing in yourself, Can’t no man stop what God has in store for you, you asked him and told him your desires and he’ll give them to you, always put him first though, if you don’t ‘t believe in yourself then there’s no success.
