Check Out Dr. Mechelle Roberthon’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Mechelle Roberthon.

Dr. Mechelle Roberthon

Hi Dr. Roberthon, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m a Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD), Modern Classroom Certified Trainer (MCCT), Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS), and a keynote/workshop presenter. My background includes, but is not limited to, facilitating various workplace culture topics, adult learner engagement, learning management system administration, improving internal performance workflows, and establishing collaborative work relationships. I received a Doctor of Education in Learning and Organizational Change from Baylor University. I hold a Master of Science in Education with a specialization in Training and Performance Improvement. Globally I’m a member of the Association of Talent Development, where I’ve published several works by magazine, research report commentary, and blogs. I am also a founding member of the Talent Development Think Tank, a community for professionals to share best practices, discover the latest trends, hear from experts, and solve challenges. In my community, I serve on the board for the local chamber of commerce (One Acadiana) and several committees for area nonprofits. I am also an alumnus of my community’s flagship leadership program, was named a Woman of Distinction in 2022 by the Girl Scouts of Louisiana Pines to the Gulf council, and was a 20 under 40 recipient in 2020. I am also an experienced career and professional development instructor.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The bumps I’ve experienced were people not giving me an opportunity to prove myself early on in my career, and when I wanted to branch out to do speaking engagements co-workers and employers didn’t always fully value my talents or they saw them as a threat instead of a gift. Getting through college 3 times was also a humongous challenge!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a corporate entrepreneur, currently. My corporate 9-5 is serving as the Vice President of Student Services at Unitech Training Academy, a post-secondary institution offering allied health and IT programs. I oversee the leaders of the key administrative departments: Admissions, Financial Services, Career Services, and Compliance. Entrepreneurially, I am the CEO of Dr. Mechelle Roberthon Enterprise LLC.where I serve as a keynote speaker, curate workshops, customize learning experiences for organizations, and advise talent and career development professionals.

What sets me apart is my creative thinking and practical approach. I think any complex issue can be solved and explained simply. When I’m training, I like to speak in a way that my audience can understand, and I aim for them to leave with specific next steps they can implement immediately.

I’m most proud of earning the highest academic degree from a well-known and respected private Baptist school, Baylor University. I’m proud to be Dr. Mechelle Roberthon!

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me right now is being at peace and resting. I’ve been running at 100 mph for so long, that right now I just want to relax and strategically plan my next steps for my business. I’m taking this period of rest seriously. I’m setting boundaries with family and friends and with myself. I’m saying ‘no’ to opportunities that don’t align with my peace. I’m being intentional, and that feels good to me right now.
