Today we’d like to introduce you to Durrell Dove.
Hi Durrell, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well I started photography back in 2015, a few years after losing my brother to gun violence in my hometown. He was 19 years old at the time of his demise, we were very close, and he would always tell me I needed to pick up a camera because I have a good eye for creative art! When he died, it sparked something in me to really go after what I was naturally good at, and it was taking photos and creating art rather it be a camera or on a piece of paper. I never let those words he encouraged leave me to this day. I picked up my first camera, which was a Canon t3, and I started my journey; it was a very difficult road to where I’m at with the craft, lot of learning over the years from some of the best to pick up a camera. Today I am very proud of who I’ve become and how far I’ve come; I’ve provided quality service from Indianapolis to Atlanta, leaving my clients very happy and motivated about themselves as well when they see themselves in a great photo! I moved to Atlanta in June 2018 with a vision to become great in a city who supports their own with open arms. I plan to keep the momentum going forward and keep the clients who choose Dove Captures not only satisfied but motivated and aspired to do the things they love for a living.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a very difficult road. I say this because entrepreneurship isn’t an easy road to travel with little to no support. I think the biggest thing was trying to get people to believe in your vision, a lot of times people have to see rather than hear you tell them about something you do or going to do! The transition to moving here to Georgia made it a little better because I didn’t have my comfort zone anymore, and I’m in a new city where I didn’t know anyone!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a full-time photographer and videographer, I specialize in portrait work and lifestyle photography, I’ve also been transitioning to wedding photography as well. I’m very proud of being able to do what I love for a living and being able to transition to a different city and build the brand, I feel as if I’m apart from others because I set goals very high and treat my clients as if we’re family! I make sure they have a smile on every experience with Dove Captures!
What matters most to you? Why?
Family matters most to me because they are what keep me motivated and going each day! They are the reason why I do what I do, my motivation comes from seeing them happy!
