Today we’d like to introduce you to Edford Banuel.
Hi Edford, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career started as a student at Howard University, where I studied film production. Upon completing, I went on to direct several award-winning short films (Unjust Cause, A Message From Pops, and Land of the Free) and an independent feature film (The Last Adam). However, this was only the beginning of my journey as a filmmaker.
As a result of Covid, I started a new production company in which redefined my purpose as a filmmaker. I created Room For Us, LLC, a production company whose mission is to tell compelling stories of everyday black and brown achievers in the community. In a short documentary form, I told stories about difference makers ranging from technology, real estate, social activism, wine and spirits, entertainment, etc.
Since the launch, I’ve partnered with nonprofit organizations and corporations to help them create video content that focuses on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, HBCU career placement, and creating diversity in Sustainability careers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Initially, some of my challenges were
securing financing to produce projects and having distribution outlets. However, the impact of COVID has forced me to truly become independent. I leveraged my relationships and used social media to produce and distribute my own content. In retrospect, I’ve learned not to limit myself to traditional methods.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In 2020, I started a new production company in which redefined my purpose as a filmmaker. I created Room For Us, LLC, to symbolize breaking through closed doors and empowering us to have a seat at the table. Our mission is to tell compelling stories of everyday black and brown achievers in the community. In a short documentary form, I told stories about difference makers ranging from technology, real estate, social activism, wine and spirits, and entertainment.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Room For Us is not just a film production company but instead a creative agency that produces the following: commercials, music videos, promotional and campaign videos, DEI awareness, and more.
