Check Out Eileen Corse’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eileen Corse.

Hi Eileen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my art career at the age of 42. I guess you could call me a late bloomer. I had just delivered my last baby and was looking for something to fill my time. I’d always liked to draw, so I started there. I studied all the art books I could get my hands on and basically taught myself how to paint.

I worked hard to find my style and “voice”. I found a genre that spoke to me, and so I went full throttle toward studying the subject matter. That genre is my popular “Water” series of paintings. The series depicts people in and around water. I did set out to paint this familiar genre with individuality…something that would set me apart from other painters using the same subject matter. I paint with oils using a 3-inch pallet knife to apply dense, thick, textural strokes.

I never dreamed that it would be such a success.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The only struggle I’ve really had to overcome is learning to self-promote. It takes courage and conviction to approach galleries, or even clients, with your art.

I did own a fine art gallery for eight years. There, I learned how to promote other artists. That helped me to learn to be positive and have the confidence to promote myself, just like I would promote any another artist.

I have a good business sense, and that helps as well with creating ads, making deals, shipping, and all the things that are involved in the business of ART.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have worked very hard to be where I am today. I am so grateful and fortunate to have a good business sense that works well with my artistic vision. So many artists struggle with the business side, but for me, it comes naturally.

I think what sets my art apart is clearly my style. I paint with oils. But I primarily apply the paint with a

3-inch pallet knife in thick, rich strokes. Although I paint a familiar subject matter, I purposefully paint in a way that the viewer cannot walk past without stopping to take a look.

Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I find inspiration with the water, whether I am in the water or merely looking at a body of water. It always calms me. It always brings me right back to my youth when swimming every day is what we did in the summer. The water mesmerizes me.

Instead of photo-realism, I try to capture the feeling of the water as abbreviated as possible.
