Check Out Erika Smith’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Smith.

Hi Erika, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
3:16 Healthcare was born as a vision of what primary care should really be—a journey to wellness guided by providers with a passion for the whole-body theory of health. Today’s healthcare environment is very numbers driven: cost of care and insurance, testing expenses, lab values, the number of patient encounters per day. This is what is making patients and providers frustrated and just plain sick of today’s healthcare culture! Healthcare is more than just numbers! None of us are guaranteed a certain number of days on this earth, and only the Lord knows how many we will get. Our job as healthcare providers is to help improve the quality of each and every one of those days, so that everyone can fulfill their God-given purpose and goals in life. We will accomplish this by listening to the needs and goals of our patients, by educating patients and families about their particular diagnoses and concerns, by providing support services to our patients and families, and by continuing to educate and support ourselves and our families. We will meet our patients, and our teammates, right where they are, with open hearts and open minds. Prevention is of utmost importance, and maintenance of good health is equally important to treating new or existing health conditions.

Spa 3:16 exists for much more than just cosmetic improvements. When you care about yourself and take care of yourself, you feel better and you make better health choices. The spa is part of the whole-body health experience, and has focused programs for weight loss, exercise, hormone balance, metabolic optimization, relaxation, self-care, and stress-relief. We offer cosmetic and medical therapies that can be life-changing and that can significantly improve the confidence and quality of life of our patients.

The providers of 3:16 Healthcare believe that educating the community is a key component to making a community healthier. We are also committed to community outreach and volunteerism and expect the same of our staff. We, as a team, want to make a lasting difference in people’s lives so that each person can, in turn, help another. To paraphrase something John Wesley once wrote, we will strive to do all the good we can, by all the means we can, in all the ways we can, in all the places we can, at all the times we can, to all the people we can, as long as we ever can. We will choose love and will offer it unconditionally to people of all faiths, races, genders, and walks of life. By changing the way healthcare if offered and taking a balanced approach to healthcare that includes evidenced-based medicine, holistic medicine, education, and self-care, we will strive to make every community served by 3:16 Healthcare a happier, healthier place to live and grow!

“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” Prov. 16:3

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the first three months of opening, there was a small fire in the building, a tornado that came through the parking lot, and an ice storm that closed us down for a few days, but we will still growing at a rapid-fire pace– so much so that we hired another provider in November of 2017! I could write about all the graces and favors God showed us in those first weeks and months, and he continues to shower them on us to this day! From the lady at the Medicare office who told Dr Key over the phone she knew what 3:16 stood for so she was going to pass our application that day without the standard 90 day delay, to the fact that we had a small IT issue that kept us in the building later than planned the night of the fire, God opened doors at every angle for us.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My name is Erika, and I am a proud Georgia native, raised in Roswell. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of West Georgia, where I attended on a soccer scholarship. I later completed a Master of Science in Biology with a concentration in Microbiology before attending the Physician Assistant program at Mercer University. Since graduating, I have been practicing in family medicine, while also pursuing my passion in esthetic medicine since 2017.
I currently serve as the Spa Director at 3:16 Healthcare, which opened in 2017 with a mission to redefine healthcare through a whole-body, wellness-centered approach. Our goal has always been to change the face of medicine by putting compassion, community, and innovation at the forefront. We have grown from a small 8-person business to a thriving company with over 150 employees and 11 different locations. Our medical spa, Spa 3:16, has been nationally recognized as one of Allergan’s Top 500 companies (2023, 2024) as well as Top Growth for the state of GA (2024). We were also part of RepeatMDs Top 100 Trailblazers of 2024. Out of more than 4000+ participating businesses, Spa 3:16 secured the number 11 spot with record breaking in app sales, groundbreaking promotions and patient engagement.
I am deeply committed to advancing the field of esthetic medicine and believe in the power of community involvement among providers. I see a real need for greater connection, collaboration, and centralized resources to help esthetic professionals grow and thrive together. Over the past five years, I’ve served on multiple boards (see below) and remain dedicated to giving back to my community in any way I can.
Outside of work, I’m married to the love of my life, Ryan Smith, and we have two wonderful sons, Cole (9) and Maddox (7). In my free time, I enjoy being with my family, attending sporting events, and coaching soccer.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help. You don’t know what you don’t know. I was trained in medicine, not business. In our early years we had so much that we didn’t know but surrounded ourselves with people who were willing to help and answer questions.
