We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was adopted by my grandparents when I was young, after my mother passed away when I was just 2 1/2 years old. Losing her so early left a hole in my heart that I didn’t fully understand at the time, but it stayed with me throughout my life. My grandparents gave me the love and care I needed, and for a while, that was my sense of stability. But when I turned 15, everything changed. I ended up in foster care, and that experience was nothing like the childhood I had known. At that age, I thought I should have been on the path to independence, but instead, I was thrown into a world where I didn’t belong, feeling lost and confused. I moved between several placements, never really finding a place that felt like home. The lack of stability made it hard to trust anyone or believe that things could get better.

Becoming a teen mom added even more weight to my already heavy life. I was still figuring out who I was, and suddenly, I had to care for another human being. The responsibility felt overwhelming at times. I was so young, and I wasn’t sure if I was prepared for the journey of motherhood while still healing from my own wounds.

The sexual abuse I experienced made everything even harder. It was a betrayal on a deep level, and it took so much from me. The pain and shame that came with it impacted my sense of self-worth and trust in others. I felt lost in the darkness of it all. Overcoming that trauma has been a long, painful journey, and at times, it felt impossible to heal.

There was a brief period in my life when I was homeless, and that struggle is something I will never forget. Living without a home, without a sense of security, made me feel invisible. I fought just to survive. It was an exhausting and soul-crushing experience, but it also taught me resilience. I had no choice but to keep going, even when everything seemed hopeless.

The hardest fight of all was fighting for custody of my son. I was determined to give him a better life than the one I had. I wanted to be the mother he deserved, even though I had to overcome so many of my own struggles. Fighting for him wasn’t just about securing legal rights; it was about showing myself, and the world, that I could be a strong, loving mother despite everything I had been through.

Every piece of my story has shaped who I am today. The pain, the losses, the battles – they’ve all been a part of my journey. But they’ve also given me the strength and resilience to rise above it. Despite everything, I’ve fought for my son, for my future, and for my healing. And I know that no matter what comes my way, I’ll keep fighting.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Make yourself teachable and humble yourself to serve others. Often Mentorship happens organically when your heart is to serve others. Someone will see you and want to be a blessing to you and help you grow. Just like when the Apostle Paul was teaching In Acts 18,, there was a couple that wanted to ensure he was sharpened so they helped him.

Acts 18:26 He began to speak freely (fearlessly and boldly) in the synagogue; but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him with them and expounded to him the way of God more definitely and accurately.

When we are walking in our purpose, there will be people along the way that support us and want to see us win. They will help us if we remain teachable and humble.

Then there are times where you should seek out mentorship and remain committed to the process
