Check Out Francis Baker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francis Baker.

Francis Baker

Hi Francis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Francis Lee Baker IV. I’m a model and digital content creator. I was born and raised in Lexington, KY. When I lived in Kentucky, there weren’t many opportunities to pursue a career in fashion. I started blogging as an outlet to express myself and learn more about the industry. I couldn’t afford a photographer to shoot my content, so I started by styling outfits and shooting flay lays. Eventually, I talked my granny into buying me my first DSLR and taught myself the basics of photography. When I started modeling the looks I was styling, doors began opening for me. My favorite brands started contacting me about collaborating. I even had a modeling agency DM to see if I would be interested in signing with them. Currently, I’m taking everything I’ve learned and branching into fashion styling.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Working a full-time job and pursuing your dreams is a hard balance. I often battle with imposter syndrome because I spend more time than I’d like helping big corporations achieve their goals. That usually makes me question whether my goals are important and whether I’m doing enough to succeed.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a model and digital content creator. Most of my work consists of collaborating with brands to create content promoting their products. I specialize in men’s fashion, styling, and photography. I’m known for sharing styling inspiration for bigger guys. I’m most proud of creating opportunities by teaching myself how to use a camera. One of the coolest opportunities was being flown to Miami by Express to star in one of their campaigns. What sets me apart is that my body doesn’t look like most models, so I’m representing the guys that look like me.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
Pinterest is one of my favorite sources of inspiration. I also love reading Vogue and GQ. Some men sleep on women’s fashion but that’s where I find a lot of my inspiration. YouTube is another great place for inspiration. I love watching videos of guys breaking down runway trends.
