Check Out Gabrielle Symone’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Symone.

Gabrielle Symone

Hi Gabrielle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been a lover of the arts, particularly film since I was a little kid. I was bit by the acting bug at age 12 and my mother enrolled me in acting classes at the Alliance Theater. I started to develop my craft as an actor through high school and college. To get some experience, I started working as an extra on various sets throughout Atlanta. I’ve also done some stand-in work, commercial work, and numerous independent films.

When the pandemic hit and productions started to shut down, life started to change a lot for me. Over the past 4 years, I’ve gotten married and birthed 2 children. The podcast started a project to share the stories of my friends and colleagues in the industry. Being a new mom doesn’t allow be some same flexibility as before, when it comes to the pursuit of my acting career. “The Call Sheet Podcast” allows me to have great conversations with industry insiders, so that new actors can have insights on what they need to succeed in this business. When I first started out there wasn’t a whole lot of information readily available to aspiring actors. This podcast is dedicated to being a source of information for aspiring, beginner, and new actors and creatives. My goal is to share inspiring stories and steps that lead to success in the industry.

The official launch of The Call Sheet Podcast was July 1, 2024. I release new episodes every week. I’ve had the opportunity to interview actors, writers, casting directors, and acting coaches who have started and built their careers right here in Atlanta. The feedback I’ve received so far has been great. My overall goal is to have each interview as a mini masterclass.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting the podcast presented various challenges, such as finding the right equipment, getting the sound quality perfected, and the overall logistics of a proper podcast set up. I’ve run to Google and YouTube to conduct my research and get a lot of questions answered. Over the summer I also attend Podcast Summit, which was a 2-Day event dedicated to starting, growing, and monetizing a podcast. Attending that conference was my saving grace. I was able to make great connections and I walked away with actual tangibles to implement for my podcast.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I’m a high school teacher for Atlanta Public Schools. I’ve been in the education field for the past 5 years. I enjoy teaching and inspiring the youth. I’ve had the opportunity to teach 6th – 11th grade thus far. Some of the subjects I’ve taught in the past include, Reading, English Language Arts, and Theater.

I earned my Bachelors of Science in Communication from the University of West Georgia. I went on to get my Masters degree in K-12 Pedagogy from Thomas University.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very creative and artistic. I enjoyed arts and crafts, dancing, painting, watching as many movies as I could. I loved to laugh and found a lot of fun and comfort in playing with my siblings and cousins.
