Check Out Gena Lashay’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gena Lashay.

Hi Gena, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began acting in high school in 1993 and later took a 20-year break to raise my children. In 2018, I returned to acting through local theatre in Orlando, Florida. I transitioned into television and film in 2021, starting with short films and background work. My most recent projects include the hit soap opera Beyond the Gates and the feature film A Mother’s Confession, now streaming on Tubi. I currently have four additional projects in post-production.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Relocating has come with its own set of challenges, including rebuilding professional networks, adjusting to a new market, and balancing personal responsibilities with career momentum. Establishing new connections, gaining visibility, and finding consistent opportunities in an unfamiliar environment has required persistence, adaptability, and resilience, but these struggles have also strengthened my commitment to the craft and my long-term goals as an actor.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m proud of rebuilding my acting career from the ground up, transitioning from theatre to television and film, and earning roles in projects with real impact. Balancing motherhood, relocation challenges, and a demanding industry while continuing to book work and build momentum speaks to my perseverance, growth, and commitment to storytelling. What sets me apart is the depth I bring from lived experience, resilience, and a strong work ethic shaped by both life and craft. Returning to acting after a long hiatus has given me clarity, focus, and purpose—I don’t take opportunities for granted, and I approach every role with intention and professionalism.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality I believe is most important to my success is resilience. The ability to step away, return, rebuild, and keep moving forward despite setbacks, relocation challenges, and an ever-changing industry has shaped both my career and my mindset. Resilience allows me to stay focused, adaptable, and committed to growth—approaching each opportunity with patience, gratitude, and determination while continuing to evolve as both an artist and a professional.
