Check Out George Dunkins’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Dunkins.

Hi George, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. West End a neighborhood plagued with crime and violence — where many lacked the skills and resources for success. During my primary years in school, I was tested and labeled gifted. It wasn’t until I was in high school that I discovered my niche. I was 16 years old and a sophomore in high school when I began producing. The ability to combine strings of music, seemingly with little effort, fascinated me. The more I became engaged with producing, the more confident I became in my craft. Not only did I develop a passion for music, I also believed producing was my passion.

I had completed two years of college before deciding to drop out and pursue a career in music as a producer, and shortly after received my first album placement on recording artist Mozzy’s Fake Famous project. Since then, I’ve collaborated and produced songs with artists Mozzy, YFN Lucci, Quando Rondo, Luh Soldier, and Big Yavo. I’ve had 3 placements on Rich Homie Quan’s album Coma, & 1 on Quan’s most recent project, “Family & Mula: Reloaded”, in addition to releasing my own project, “Picture Perfect”. As a producer and part-time engineer, I plan to release more of my own work while perfecting my skills as a producer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of my struggles included a lack of studio equipment during high school, having to sneak to make beats while on punishment, and also a lack of a support system from my hometown.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an upcoming producer in the music industry known for engineering and making beats. I have placements with Major artists such as Rich Homie Quan, YFN Lucci, Duuo (an upcoming group from Toronto), Mozzy, plus many more. What sets me apart most are my unpredictable drum patterns and sound selection.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My high school choir teacher Mrs. Whatley played a HUGE role in my success as a producer. She understood early how hungry I was to learn more about music and that made me even more passionate about it. I owe a lot of this to her.

Also, my brother Prezzley P, who is also a known music producer in the industry, helps guide me and gave me a bigger vision on how the music business works and how I can get paid the most from it. He also has helped me elevate my sound as a producer.
