Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenda Carswell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Glenda Carswell, aka Golden Glenda who is currently a model, actress, collaborative author, and media professional. After retiring from a long tenure of registered nursing spanning , I decided at age 65, I wanted to try something new, different and fun! Except, it wasn’r COMPLETELY new for me. I had modeled previously in my 20’s and 30’s. Though was hesitant, this cessation was due to the demanding nature of my nursing career,
As I was going through the demise of a 27-year marriage and a new separation, I decided I wanted something that was engaging, people-oriented, and empowering! My two sons, TC and James, were now young adults, ages 27 and 24 so I felt like “now is the time”! I decided to contact a model agency, The Lyngale Agency (TLA) founded by Tina Bridges, which was an agency for models 40 and over. After doing some research and talking with Tina, I decided to join this agency.
Along my journey, I was faced with several challenges and obstacles that I didn’t realize would be a problem. Suddenly, I started to doubt and question my decision. There were times I wanted to just give up. But because of my deep faith in God, and being surrounded by encouraging people who prayed for me and with me, I was able to continue on this path God has laid out for me.,
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been struggles for sure. Some of the struggles have been directly due to a traumatic childhood experience I encountered at age 7. I talk about this in my first collaborative book. “A Love Story: The Price I Paid Volume 3.. It has affected me, body-image wise, from childhood until now, However, I am an overcomer, constantly rising above any negativity that could possibly hinder my accomplishments.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I indicated earlier, I am a happily retired RN from 40-plus years of nursing in the State of Georgia. I knew from 3rd grade that I wanted to be a nurse. I wanted to take care of people and help them feel better. There was one uncle, Uncle Willie, who lived in Virginia, who always encouraged me to pursue my dream,
After graduating from Nursing School in 1979,from Valdosta State College (now University), I began my nursing career at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta on the Orthopedic-Neurology Surgery Unit. My experience is vast over the years, but I next worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in General Surgery and Burns, Following St. Joseph’s, I was employed byTravelers Insurance and Continental Insurance as a Medical Representative and Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist. This is where I received excellent corporate business training for over eight years. I’ve worked in Urgent care centers, psychiatry units, addictive disease, Kaiser Permanente discharge RN, home health, and my last employer Piedmont Healthcare on a busy, fast-paced medical-surgical unit. My passion, dedication and drive for unconditional caring for people is what was my driving force throughout all these years.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
