Check Out Ian Deaton’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ian Deaton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born in Kansas City, Missouri. Started playing music in Atlanta in 1998. Started working in film in 2006. Currently working as a film composer, screenwriter and set dresser and running the record label Deanwell Global Music with musician Thomas Barnwell (Picture One).

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not. Life is full of struggles whether you make art or not. Persistence at any speed is the key. Whether you’re following your passions every day or once a year, making money or losing it, as long as you’re having fun and expressing yourself, that’s what you should strive for in my opinion.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I write and record albums in my home studio, score low-budget movies with Thomas Barnwell, direct music videos for projects I’m involved in, screen write with Becky Furey, play shows, etc. I’m most proud of the screenplay “Blast of Rage” I’m currently finishing with Becky Furey. It’s a cosmic murder mystery/giallo set in Atlanta in 1991.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The film and music industry have gone through huge changes post-covid. I have no idea what to expect. I’m lucky enough to have a day job. I’m gonna keep making stuff in the future whether I get paid or not.
