Today we’d like to introduce you to Indiah Johnson.

Hi Indiah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a creative soul, finding joy in art, fashion, music, and entertainment since childhood. Growing up in a family of creatives, I was constantly inspired to pursue a career that would allow me to monetize my skills and talents. This led me to become a master cosmetologist, but not without a 15-year journey.

During this time, I worked in various fields, including sales, marketing, hospitality, and entrepreneurship. I even ran my own business as a lash technician and fashion designer, hosting fashion shows and styling events. As well as creating handmade skincare products for friends and local barbershops, such as “The Swag Shop” on Edgewood, in ATL. Through these experiences, I discovered a passion for people and building strong connections with others. These experiences have built my confidence in my ability to establish a name for myself in the beauty industry.

In 2023, I took the first significant step in my career by enrolling in Elaine Sterling Institute as an aspiring master cosmetologist. This was a pivotal decision that I made to ensure I was prepared to make an impact in this field. Little did I know that it was just the beginning of a transformative chapter that would forever change my life.

While in school, I faced immense stress and uncertainty. For instance, I lost several loved ones, and I had to move out of my apartment due to an unlawful eviction, and giving up on my car that I had meticulously maintained. Despite these challenges, I persevered and continued to pursue my dreams.

This perseverance led me to the next major milestone: obtaining my Master Cosmetology License. It took me three attempts to pass my state board exam while being homeless this past summer. But I’m so proud I didn’t give up. The Beauty Collextion is now flourishing as I’m continuing to learn how to navigate and find my way in a such a competitive, fun and rewarding industry.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, not even. I was faced with hardships, lack of funds, bereavement and plenty of disappointment. In the beauty industry, and in life, it’s easy to chase the next big opportunity. But here’s the thing: if it doesn’t align with my purpose, it’s not for me. I’ve even walked away from offers, passed on deals, and said ‘no’ to what wasn’t in line with my values—and that’s okay. Knowing my worth, trusting in my journey, and never settling for anything that doesn’t match with my vision has helped me navigate through the struggles along the way. Keeping faith at the forefront.

I’m a Master Cosmetologist specializing in hair color, cutting, extensions, natural hairstyles, healthy scalp care, and growing out beautiful hair for all textures. I’m known for creating customized looks while keeping the hair healthy, clean, and well-conditioned. I’m proud of my commitment to maintaining the integrity of my clients’ hair and supporting long-term healthy growth.
What sets me apart is my attention to detail, strong customer service, and problem-solving skills. I listen, understand what each client needs, and deliver styles that make them feel confident and cared for.

What matters most to you? Why?
What truly matters to me is cultivating strong bonds and connections with others. I believe in treating them with respect and kindness, just as I would want to be treated.
