Check Out Isaac (Curvy Angels) Randolph’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaac (Curvy Angels) Randolph.

Hi Isaac (Curvy Angels), we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
2015 I had just started building websites and practicing internet/affiliate marketing at the time and knew at some point I would like to start a business just not knowing what. I had started playing around with different niches and one of them was an A&P (anatomy & physiology) learning niche geared towards health students. I was able to grow the audience to 20,000 thousand on Facebook and Instagram which I was making learning in a digestible form which was helpful for nursing, health and medical field students.

While I had that going, I also wanted to get into the women’s industry and once again, I had no idea of where to start. I started doing research and many subgenres popped into mind but the curvy and plus size stuck with me. Why? Because at the time in 2015, I didn’t see many pages catering to them. The pages I did come across were over-sexualizing them making them mainly as objects. Of course, there’s a bunch of plus-size influencers and brands but they mainly cater to themselves because they themselves are the main entity. I wanted to build something that focused on the supporters and fans first so they feel involved right away.

That was the birth of Curvy Angels. The purpose of Curvy Angels is built to uplift plus-size and curvy women by learning to take back ownership of words such as fat, thick, chubby and others. Within the first several months, we only had about 3k followers. A year went by it grew to 50k. Another year later, it sprung to 150k followers. I was surprised it was growing this fast but from the responses and comments on the page, I could see that the platform was needed. A space where people can post their photos and get positive and encouraging words of feedback, making it feel like a small community. Where we can share body positivity stories, helpful advice and exploring life journeys on how to get through situations.

At one point, I had almost stopped the brand because people kept saying I was promoting obesity and I was letting that get to my head. I did not want to push something out there that was causing harm. But it’s the comments and messages from the supporters that let me know to continue. As my message is to love yourself and not to society’s standards. Just because you are big does not mean you can’t be healthy and active. That’s the message we encourage but we do not push the ideology on you like diet culture.

As the brand started growing the requests started coming in more and that’s what helped us to start selling clothing. We sell a variety of clothes such as shirts, hoodies, leggings and shorts. Sometimes seasonal dresses and jumpsuits. Just by listening to the audience, they can help steer the direction where you should be going or help spark ideas. I wanted to keep branching out and expanding. I dabbled a little bit with modeling as far as wanting to launch an agency, maybe again in the future. Our first model was Curvy Abby or known at the time as Curvy Angel Abby in 2017.

I remember having Curvy Angels first online audition where we asked the supporters at the time in 2017 about 300k followers on having a Curvy Angel model. We got so many submissions from all over. Beautiful plus size and curvy women of all races and color sending in photos but Abby stuck out to us and what also was a plus is that she lived in the same state, Minnesota. I reached out to her we talked and made it official. We launched her social medias, did our first photoshoot and the rest is history. She has grown and evolved so much and doing her own thing now, just always good to see progress.

I continued to expand and wanted to do events and from this, I went on to having a Curvy Angels Celebration which was an event just to celebrate the brand and have fun among others that also valued it. We plan on doing more events especially in other states, as we continue to network and expand. Events such as pool bashes, fun get-aways, action networking and much more. I want to continue bringing people more togetherness in the body positive movement and events like these will help reflect.

Sometimes the audience has to remind me of how big the brand has become and some of the effects of it. Just by going through the comment section, you will see ladies thanking us for helping them to love their bodies. We get many messages thanking us for making the platform and that it’s their favorite. So many big and curvy ladies hate to look at themselves in the mirror and hate taking full body pictures because of self-doubt. Our platform helps to bring that out of you and let your beauty shine. We have even brought couples together. From what we know of there has been about four marriages and many relationships from our platform and every now and then they write us to tell us thank you.

I see brands such as Prettylittlething and Fashion Nova as motivation because the CEOs of those companies are also Men running a women’s empire. At the time of this interview, Curvy Angels has 992k followers combined Facebook and Instagram and is still growing. Right now, my focus is on branding, expanding and new releases. I’m always looking to network and work with others as learning is an experience that can be taught from like-minded peers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has not been a smooth road and currently is still an upward battle but being able to adjust is very important. Some of the biggest obstacles was figuring out what the audience likes but that was more in the beginning. Through plenty of trial and error, this is how we were able to grow and expand. As we continue to introduce new segments and content, there will be more learning to do.
