Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamison Moore.
Hi Jamison, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up, I would always be in my family’s living room watching various shows and films. From then on, I knew storytelling was the path for me. So, I started to grow more interested in film production and acting, and I would start doing Lego stop-motion films and short skits with my little sister. In 2021, I graduated from high school and began my college journey at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. Fast forward to the present, I’m now a senior at SCAD, about to graduate with a B.F.A. in Film & Television with an Acting for the Camera minor.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! My biggest obstacle by far has been comparison. I’ve always had a strong desire to succeed and impress people, but that sometimes leads to high standards, and you guessed it, comparison. Sometimes, I would compare my film project to someone else’s, or I would judge my acting performance against someone else’s. But through the various comparisons I made, I learned that comparing myself to others is nothing but a waste of time. I still struggle with it, but I’m much more content and grateful than I was years ago.
Another struggle I’ve had is believing in myself. Sometimes I would get in my head and doubt myself, but over time, I learned that I can do anything through Christ, who strengthens me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a filmmaker and actor. For film, I specialize in directing and producing mainly, and work on more narrative content. As for acting, I work on more film than stage. I’m most proud of a few projects. For my senior thesis, I had the opportunity to produce two short films, Film of the Living Dead, a zombie horror comedy, and Avoidance, a coming-of-age drama. With acting, I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of an amazing cast on a film called Forward. It’s a student indie feature, and I’m so grateful that I got to help bring the film’s story to life.
What sets me apart from others is my humor. I don’t know, it’s weird, but I tend to make people laugh with my quips, and I incorporate those in my stories and performances.
What are your plans for the future?
Well, like I said before, I’m about to graduate from SCAD. After that, I’m planning on finding work in Texas, specifically Dallas and Austin. With filming in Texas rising lately, I feel it may be best to start my career in my home state. Plus, I want to grow in my acting craft and hopefully, find representation there.
Frankly, I’m looking forward to the adventure I’m about to go on. The industry is at a low state right now, but I can’t help but wonder what opportunities and experiences I will have. So, whatever God allows to happen to me, bring it on.
