Check Out Janice Grant’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Grant.

Hi Janice, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am 27 years old living in Atlanta from the Sunny Sides of South Florida. I was in track and field growing up, so I always am trying to move forward faster. I was injured in my junior year of High school, which changed my entire path of life. I got into a deep depression and my mom bought me turntables and I stumbled upon new talent.

Everyday and every weekend, I was on my turntables trying to always find the new sound and faster. I ended up moving to ATL in 2017 after a small heartache. I know what you’re thinking, you let your heart dictate your next move?

Yes, always listen to your heart. It will put you in some of the most eye-opening situations. I got to Atlanta and had nothing but two boxes of clothes and my laptop and turntable. I got a job at Guitar Center and my love for music grew even deeper.

Then, life happened again. My sister and I got evicted from our apartment. I lost EVERYTHING. My turntables, laptop, 88 keyboard… everything. I felt so defeated, nothing mattered. Everything I was working towards never mattered.

I was able to move in with a friend who actually was a music engineer. Even though there were times, we didn’t get alone his work ethic definitely put fire in my ass to keep going.

I had to get it by any means necessary. I started working three jobs. Garage in Kennesaw Mall in the morning, Citgo in the afternoon til 10PM and worked at a small studio til 5am.

I got enough money to get back a laptop, a new piano and a new spot downtown. I’m not living in Marietta. My life has many ups and downs.

I just learned how to manage through it all and keep working toward my goal of making it in the music industry. Underground and or mainstream. I’m going to make it.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I have many struggles in this lifestyle. From being evicted, horrible landlords and abusive relationships. The most struggle is being a woman in this industry that is male-dominated is keeping a business relationship. It’s hard to just try and make music and a man is trying to get into my pants.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a singer, rapper, songwriter. I would say people know me for my vocals and my penmanship. I can write a song within 10-15 of hearing the beat. I love to challenge my vocal range. I can get a soprano, alto, tenor and a little bit of bass vocal range. I’m most proud of knowing how to play the piano and drums. I think that will set me apart from a lot of people who are used to using computer sounds instead of authentic instruments.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me anyhow they would want. If they want me to write for them, sing something or just work together in a song. I am extremely easygoing on learning people’s work ethic. People can support by just interacting with me via social media and definitely enjoying my music that I release!
