Check Out Jasia Givner’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasia Givner

Hi Jasia, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Creativity is engraved in my DNA. Being able to express my creative desires brings me the most joy that I’ve ever experienced. As an African American woman I was raised to believe that I had to embark on a career that would support me and my future. I really cherish the way that my family wanted me to be taken care of and self-efficient however it made me suppress my burning desire for creativity. Graduating college almost 10 years ago now, and not using my Biological Sciences degree to its potential has made me see that I need to stay true to my passion, that is what has lead me to creating Slayed Designs LC. I want to build my creative design business by bringing all of my ideas to life!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been spaghetti junction lol from personal struggles to outside forces trying to bring me down, the journey has been a long, curvy, bumpy with some smooth paths along the way but it has helped me develop strength and perseverance to get through all the challenges! I love saying ” I did that” rather anyone sees or not.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am known for being “The Stylist Next Door” I have been providing hair services to my friends, family and community since I was 17! I’m that girls girl! Hair is my second language and I will always have that skill. My clients are long term and loyal and I love each and every one of them. They aren’t just clients they are blessings and they have all changed my life. My stylist Instagram is @j.slay.me. Hair has always been a side hustle because I want to remain affordable for my community, so I maintain a full-Time job (Lemonade Pet Insurance) so that way I don’t have to gauge my prices on my clients, it’s my little way of giving back. Being a stylist is not a passion of mine but I am really good at it.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Everyone I have ever met has either inspired, influenced, supported, or even shown hate, but I value each person and experience because I learned how to recognize the good in a sea of bad and vice versa. God & my family have been my biggest supporters throughout life!
