Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Lane.
Hi Jasmine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been one of exciting twists and unplanned turns.
I moved from Wilmington, DE to GA in 2008 to attend Clark Atlanta University as a Computer & Information Science major. I joined plenty of orgs that helped with my growth like House Arrest II Championship Dance Team, Inc. Chapter 10: The HypnotiQ Chapter and the Orientation Guides. During my matriculation, I interned with Boeing during the summers at their locations in Seattle as a Developer and Long Beach as a Project Manager.
Upon graduating in 2013, I was hired at Boeing’s St. Louis location performing as a Process Analyst in Supply Chain Systems. After being in STL for two years, I was ready to come back to my second home, Atlanta, GA. I was hired at Mercedes-Benz USA as a Network Support Analyst in Supply Chain Systems. I worked there for a little over a year before realizing that I needed something different. I left the company and began working as an Executive Assistant for The Lash Queens. It gave me the flexibility I desired, but still, I was looking for something more stable for pay, especially coming from Corporate America.
I started to find a new path, with benefits lol, so teaching is what peaked my interest. With no formal teaching experience, I applied to KIPP Soul Primary School to be an Instructional Assistant. I’ve been with them for the past six years. I’ve taught as a lead teacher for all grades from K-4 except 1st and copped my Masters in Teaching Arts while I was at it. Now, I’m the Department Lead for Enrichment and have the flexibility to be creative and do some amazing things.
I became a Mother…. three times with two pregnancies. I’d have to say that this was the biggest twist in my life. Lol, I have a three-year-old son named Jaxon, born right before the pandemic in March of 2020, and girl/boy twins Mia & Max, born January 2023. They motivated me to a point that I didn’t even know I could be. I bought a house in February 2023 and a new mom car in March 2023. Being a single mom of three has its challenges, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Has my life been struggle-free? What?! Absolutely not! I am not exempt. Lol
I’ve been lost, not had any direction, fired, held back, hit rock bottom (like 3 times lol), lost love, found it, and lost it again lol. It’s not a crystal staircase, for sure.
My biggest struggle lately has been stepping out of my teacher role and into the realm of being a creative entrepreneur. That job security starts to look really good as I delve more into what it takes to be successful in this lane, but I have so many aspirations and skills that I’m relentless with it, even if it is taking me longer than I’d like. I started a hat line right before I got pregnant with the twins, and that idea is still sitting on the shelf waiting for me. Lol.
I believe that a big part of life is about the struggles. That’s how you GROW and become better than you were before. It takes perseverance, and it’s not for the weak. You definitely have to be able to pick and rebuild yourself up numerous times. I wouldn’t be who I am without the struggles.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
In the daytime, I’m a STEM teacher and Enrichment Department Lead. In the early evening, I’m a Momma. In the wee hours of the night, I’m every woman. Lol.
As a teacher, I’ve accomplished a lot. High test scores, great classroom culture year after year, and built lasting family relationships. As a natural creative and event planner, I’m most proud of the programs and events I have at the school. This year, I coordinated to have our Black History Program, Sounds of Freedom at my alma mater, Clark Atlanta University, booked Michael Green the Science Machine to come do a demonstration, conducting a Science Fair, and taking some scholars to Apple for some workshop sessions. Creativity, production, and event planning are my jams.
After taking care of my littles and putting them to bed, I take time for myself and do work. The work I do could be school work, entrepreneurial research, reading up on spirituality, natal charts, and/or coming up with reels for my IG pages, @pretty7much (personal page), @meet.the.mommas (momma page with momma funnies, reels, quotes, and merchandise is on the way), and @jjmm_family (where I showcase me and my three living, loving, and learning). Feel free to follow them all and let me know what you think!
The thing that sets me apart from others is most definitely my personal life experiences and creativity. I have seen and done so many things that contribute to how I think, feel, process, love, work, and play. You can come to me for advice, website creation, editing, logo design, business solutions, event and travel planning, choreography, painting, or just to laugh. There are so many facets of me, and I love that about myself!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned along my journey is to treat people how I’d want to be treated. It’s the Golden Rule for a reason. People will always remember how you made them feel, and I’ve had a plethora of opportunities that have opened up for me simply because I’m a good people reader, have the gift of gab, and I genuinely want to connect and share with the world.
